He absolutely cannot be allowed to pick the next QB.

The rule of thumb is that a GM gets to pick two coaches and/or lives and dies with his one decision on a top of the draft QB.

I was fine with him until the last week. This free agency plan is absolutely abysmal.

Pace has been digging himself deeper and deeper. Signing Graham should pretty much seal his fate.

As soon as he moved up to pick Mitch the clock started ticking on his tenure. There are tons of former GM's working in media or as scouts that missed on first round QB's. It would seem the McKaskey's would completely review how they hire and evaluate the GM/HC positions, one would think they would have at least a fifty percent success rate due to blind luck, but they have missed consistently over the years.

Yep.
when that move happened, EVERYONE mentioned Pace's career would be tied to the move.

For what was given up, Mitch HAD to be an elite QB. He missed badly. Pace's plane is boarding....unless the McClaskeys want to be the McClaskeys.

This off season has definitely been fire worthy.

He has almost no care for draft picks. He trades them away with no sense of their value in today's NFL.

The rest of the league values the draft pick over the player. Not Pace.

The Rams and Texans have both been much worse, in fairness.

Both those teams have had much more success than us.

Nagy isn't gone. He clearly has control of the roster.
Pace is done.

I don't think this guy is Adam Sheheen, but I agree it was the wrong guy and they (once again) over-drafted someone.

If they dont make the playoffs they are both gone. The Bears brass may have their issues but they dont keep guys around past their expiration date. They fired Lovie after a ten win season and canned Trestman after only two years. When its time, its time.

His failure to put together a good offense is definitely the reason to fire his ass. They are doomed next season. Which of the dozen or so tight ends that he has accumulated will be moved to offensive tackle and guard, I wonder?

And then the next problem: Who do you trust with the Bears to hire the next G.M. ?

I dont know if there's any bigger crapshoot than general managers. How many guys seem like they've got it all figured out and then cant do shit? Then you've got SF and Denver, two of the better run franchises in the sport now, who are helmed by former players that people are always looking to shit on. Even a guy who put together a winner one place will completely fail in another.

So yeah, I guess I trust the Bears about as much as I trust most of the rest of the NFL franchises to do this right. If Jim Irsay can hire Chris Ballard after Ryan Grigson, then the Bears can move on to find somebody after Ryan Pace.

You've just identified what the real problem is with the Bears. They are just dumb in their decision making mainly because they do not understand what it takes to win in the NFL. Successful sports teams have very smart and ass kicking General Managers running them. When you have to go back in decades of time to find a good GM (Jim Finks), it tells you how pathetic the Halas/McCaskey family has been in hiring good general managers and team presidents.

Look at it this way. If this was a publicly owned company responsible to its stockholders, the upper management of the company would have been replaced 40 freeking years ago.

They passed on Chris Ballard twice for Phil Emery and Pace. The level if incompetence is through the roof. He had 12+ years in this organization and Mccaskey didnt think he deserved the job
