Schwarber gets to DH for a year! Theo was right all along, he just didn't know why.

More seriously, that looks like an 11 game round robin, and they could a few series if needed at spring training sites if they set it up right.

I hope that happens if for nothing else than to see college football get better TV ratings than the NBA.

MLB is discussing a potential plan to start the season in late June and allow teams to play at their home ballparks with realigned divisions, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
The proposed plan involves realigning MLB into three divisions based on teams' locations rather than the National and American Leagues. The new divisions would help reduce travel, and teams would play with no fans in attendance.
Nightengale reports the new plan is "pending approval of medical experts and providing that COVID-19 testing is available to the public." It would eliminate the need for players to be in isolation, although it remains unknown if teams would open the season in Arizona, Texas and Florida for a few weeks.
MLB could potentially have a 100-game regular season before holding the playoffs with an expanded format. According to Nightengale, players are expected to have 18 to 21 days to train at teams' Arizona or Florida spring training sites before starting the season.
Here's a look at the reported possible realigned divisions:
EAST:
Baltimore Orioles
Boston Red Sox
Miami Marlins
New York Mets
New York Yankees
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
Tampa Bay Rays
Toronto Blue Jays
Washington Nationals
WEST:
Arizona Diamondbacks
Colorado Rockies
Los Angeles Angels
Los Angeles Dodgers
Houston Astros
Oakland Athletics
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants
Seattle Mariners
Texas Rangers
CENTRAL:
Atlanta Braves
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Cincinnati Reds
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Kansas City Royals
St. Louis Cardinals
Milwaukee Brewers
Minnesota Twins

It's interesting how Atlanta is in the Central but Pittsburgh is in the East. Pittsburgh is a lot closer to Cincinnati and Cleveland than Atlanta is to any of the cities in the Central. Also, I've never been there, but from afar, Pittsburgh has always given off a Midwest vibe, and seems like it has more in common with Cleveland and Detroit than it does with places like Philadelphia or Baltimore.

I figured that Pittsburgh was in the East because it minimized air travel. Pittsburgh is a tolerable drive up from Washington, 4 hours door to door between ballparks. Teams could work their way through I-95, bus over to Pittsburgh, then have just one flight home.

Atlanta realistically has to fly everywhere.

I wonder if broadcasters will travel with their teams all of the time? Chicago to Milwaukee or St. Louis or Detroit, sure. Chicago to KC? Same with say the Phillies, are their announcers going to travel to Toronto?

I guess they have to in order to meet their RSN requirements. But otherwise they may as well just have the home team feed and be done with it if a flight is involved.

I'm good with all of this for the time being. I'm fine with having to watch the Tigers feed of a Sox game in Detroit. Give me baseball. 50 game season, 100 game season, fans, no fans, whatever.

Maybe they could work it out and allow a small amount of fans in certain sections, every 3rd or 4th seat occupied but families can sit together. No closer than 10 rows from the field, then you could still stay away from players and umps. No concessions, bring in your own food and drinks. Maybe they could get a couple thousand people in that way. $15 lower deck, $10 upper deck, complete random draw.

I certainly would not hesitate to go even if I had to sit in the last row of the upper deck at The Rate.

I think that's the play. They've been contemplating getting rid of the NL/AL for at least a decade. This is their opportunity to do so "out of an abundance of caution for player and employee health." It'll never go back.

 I certainly would have no problem with that. I would even be willing to partake in a handshake!

But if there was a situation where fans were allowed but made to follow some strict distancing rules, I would not want to rock the boat and ruin things for everyone else.

It would be better to split them into four divisions based strictly on geography though.

Hawk had been saying that for years before he retired. In this day and age, its actually a pretty decent idea. That and the 'Team Error' stat. I agree that no hitter should ever be credited with a double because two infielders can't decide who is gonna catch a pop up.

They'll hold that out as a carrot for expansion to 32 teams in 2023.

That could be interesting. If you are a sure fire first or second round draft pick I don't know if you play.

They'll never expand.

Never would have guessed JORR for a Western/Eastern Conference baseball guy.

Not a chance......the only scenario is realistically contraction.
All four of the major sports should be aggressively planning contraction.

Maybe. The NFL supposedly has already agreed to a delay in the draft in that scenario to sometime in July. They don't want to do a whole draft of players who haven't played meaningful football in 16 months.

middle of the night I figured 6 divisions of 5 teams each, minimizing overall distances between them. My "Trump Country" division would be doing a lot of travel though. I prefer my plan.

Dr. Fauci: Sports May Not Return This Year

https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2020/0 ... this-year/

Two weeks ago, Dr. Anthony Fauci sounded optimistic about a return to sports this summer, even if it was without fans. Two weeks Later? The doctor doesn’t sound nearly as optimistic.

Fauci, who heads up the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and is often one of the most vocal members of the president’s coronavirus task force, says that without a guarantee of safety, sports may not be able to resume.

Clearly, he is on Team Joe.
A "guarantee" of safety needed. lolo

Taiwan is playing baseball in their professional league.

The world’s baseball fans are being kept entertained by just four pro teams in Taiwan

Saw a tweet from Chris Emma talking about watching Korean baseball. It got me thinking.

How about MLB take their show on the road and play 20 or 30 games in Korea, in front of Korean fans? Maybe have half the teams head there and half the teams stay in Arizona. Then have them switch after 20 games.

The players association wouldn't go for that as they already hated opening up in Japan and Australia.

But I'm ready for the ESPN broadcasts of the Korean league.
