I know it's all staged but which guys were mostly overhyped and overrated in the Squared Circle. Looking for guys that got the pop and got the push that really weren't shit.

HHH is a terrible answer. TERRIBLE.

First one that comes to my mind is Kevin Nash.

Ultimate Warrior is another. I liked him as a kid, but he was way overrated

Good call on Goldberg.

2002-2004 Lesnar was awesome. That doesn't make up for the last 8 years, though.

It's amazing with Hogan...if you see some of the work he did in Japan in the early 80's, he was actually decent in the ring.

He wasn't all that bad in the AWA either. He sucked in the WWF.

Yeah...especially rewatching stuff with nothing better to do, you can see just how bad he was. They propped him up as the muscle of the Horseman for all of 87, and he basically made a career out of it.

He got the title push because Sting blew his knee. He got pushed right before the NWO because of the sudden defection from WWF. He only worked in WWF because Vince tried bodybuilding before the XFL.

By god, I think the most remarkable thing Luger ever really did was jump out of the cage in Florida so Brody didn't kill him.

I can't remember shit about the guy but there was a guy before Warrior, Lex, etc. Vince picked out to succeed Hogan. Apparently the guy had the looks+, was okay on the stick, and had his first match at a house show with Bret Hart, and he looked phenomenal. Of course, when they put him out there with someone else, they quickly discovered the guy was the drizzling shits without Bret to carry him. Like, REALLY bad.

They say the match was never released but I thought at some point I'd seen the match. Like I say I can't remember his name. I imagine someone in the thread will eventually research/remember the guy.

Yeah, the AWA stuff I've seen was good. But that, like Japan, and the NWA were more working companies...the WWF was all show.

Yeah he was so mechanical in the ring. Human Torture Rack I thought was a decent finishing move but he never had shit else to go along with it.

There's a youtube video out there about this guy and his match with Bret. I'll try to track it down when I'm in front of a computer, but I watched it sometime in the past 6 months.

Edit: I think Boyd got the name right above

I'm going way back for this one. AWA champion Greg Gagne. And his father.

I think there was a doc on the WWE Network about that a few months ago

Oh yeah. That comes a lot when nepotism drives booking. The Von Erichs came to mind earlier, and Mike Graham in Florida, too.

Kevin and Kerry weren't bad but Mike wasn't much of shit and neither was Cousin Lance.

Kind of botch-y

Jeff Hardy, too.

This may not go over well, but The Rock. Great personality is what got him over, I won't deny that. Hell, I'm a fan. But his actual work...perfect for WWE/F. Not a guy to have a classic. Austin, before the neck injury, however...the goods.

I always forget about Kevin because he's not dead. David could go, too.

Kerry probably could have, but he coasted by on his name and mountains of coke.

Yeah the WCCW Austin was the real deal. Agree with you on the Rock too.

Yeah David was for real too. I'd just started watching wrestling shortly before he died.
