Once again I disagree.

With the championship in the trophy case, you have to agree that now is the time to build upon it. If you have a guy spewing venom about your organization, I think you must quickly controvert him in the interest of avoiding the proliferation of a negative stigma (i.e. the team craps all over you when it is done with you) in the minds of present players and future free agents.

As for the publicity argument, I also disagree - seeing this on Sportcenter, even if it is controversial, still gets the team out into the WORLD (not just local) spotlight that much more. I think that said publicity, even if considered negative by some, helps the White Sox to become more of a national phenomenon like the Cubs or 90's Bulls. A story is a story. How many people outside of Illinois did not even know who Kenny Williams was before last season? I bet a lot.

Lastly, as I said before, I like the strong stance and I think it does WELL for the team's image as underrated Warriors.

What is the strong stance? If you speak badly about your treatment we are going to bring up every unrelated vice or flaw that you might have. That is not the kind of heavy handed approach that will win over free agents (by the way, except for very limited circumstances the onlyl thing that wins over free agents is $$$)

Regarding your exposure point, this is the world champions. They have been all over ESPN since the beginning of spring training. They have already sold more than 70% of their available tickets. The Sox are not in a position where they need to whore themselves for coverage like Paris Hilton on a slow media day. They already have the coverage.

In the end judge KW's actions by its stated purpose. Did he achieve that purpose? What were the unexpected side effects? Did the benefit outweigh the burden?

The strong stance would be that this is a TEAM, and any assault against ANY of its members will not be dealt with lightly.

I believe he did achieve his stated purpose, which was to embarrass the hell out of a big mouth who was spouting-off, again, much like Phil's sortie vs, Kobe. We will see how much more complaining BF does now.

If you think that KW did not expect this to blow up like it did - just a couple weeks after Ozzie was lambasted by the press for his A-Rod comments and his White House absence, you are thinking very narrowly. What other side effects could come about? More publicity for the team, maybe current and former players thinking twice about seeking "baby" treatment like FT did, and possibly in some instances potential "baby" players shunning the White Sox in free agency. Sounds like he would be able to handle all of these "side effects" and would even encourage some.

Any day "The People" are talking about the White Sox is a good day. Why do boxers start a bunch of phony bullcrap with each other before a big fight? To sell more tickets. You just cannot fault Kenny for what he did.

Frank got exactly what he deserved - a NUCLEAR BOMB dropped right on his fat, classless face!

When kids in Montana are wearing a White Sox jerseys by the end of this spring, you will see what good the extra publicity did.[/quote]

I like Mr. Truth Serum. I'm willing to wager $5 the he has a Cotch hairstyle and stache, a pair of nicely broken in zubaz, and listens to MNMS for all his news on business an politics. His name might even be Nick Laboria and his wife bought him some White Sox tickets for Christmas.

I saw kids wearing White Sox hats in Rome in 1990. You are under some assumption that the sox are not getting their deserved recognition. Why do you think this. They are at or near the top of every major poll I have seen. They have been in the national news as much or more than any team throughout the winter. This team is not underexposed.

Give the Sox a call and find out how many tickets were sold in the last two days. This has had no affect on ticket sales (which are already through the roof).

He might have embarrassed Frank. He definitely embarassed himself.

I have seen a kid wearing a White Sox ballcap in the ghettos of Manitoba. Almost wanted to adopt him and bring back home with... When I asked if he's going to root for Buehrle (who was starting the Allstar game that night) it turned out he didn't have even a clue what White Sox is. But I'm sure JR made a few royalty bucks on that spanking new New Era product with his logo on.

Carlton Fisk was a TEAM player.....and a leader.....to even mention him alongside or compare him to Frank is a huge injustice. I cheered for Frank when he played....and he could hit.....but what did the Sox ever win with him? Fisk brought respect to the orgainization when he came here as a free agent.....
Frank Thomas was always hurt....and he is soft....just ask anyone who played football at Auburn with him....Frank couldn't get out of the training room and on the practice field
I'll tell you what the Sox won with Frank Thomas....they won UNGOTZ !!!!!!!!

Like everybody else is.

Why does that make Fisk any worse than anyone else?

Its wierd, but looking at your Avatar, I always picture you as an aging Wiseguy even though I know you are probably a young College-age snot. It is very funny, though. I agree with u, too.

good dolphin, I usually agree with your posts, so I hate the fact that our discussion here is over a disagreement! But it's fun nonetheless.

However, KW said "we" with the implication that Frank's team mates felt the same way. The only team member I have ever heard rip Frank as a bad team mate is Konerko. Alternatively, I have heard solid guys like Rowand speak Frank's praises. I have heard people like Danny Mac talk about his friends on the team all liking Thomas.

Well, you might have point there. Perhaps he shouldn't have spoken for the whole team in general - although, we don't really know the general sentiment of the clubhouse (I've never been in a locker room...). My first impression was that the players were silently cheering when they heard KW go off, but that's purely speculation on my part, and I could be wrong.

I will also grant you, when I wrote my post, I had only heard a few of the sound clips on the radio. I just watched the video on ESPN's website, and I admit that KW got a bit more emotional than I had originally thought. I still stand behind the sentiment, but I see where you're coming from that he could have comported himself a bit better.

Overall, though, I say good for him for speaking his mind and not hiding behind p.c.-speak.

This is the dumb ass cracker way of thinking of things. We are stronger and tougher and we might as well just beat some ass instead of using our mind. Then again when your mind is made up of your 10th grade education, you tend to hold this view.

Just so you know, I am a huge sox fan. Just not the dumb ass cracker type.

Go vote for Hillary then, you treehugger! Then you can use your mind to earn hard cash to give away to all of the assholes who do not want to go to work anywhere byut a street corner.

Have fun, huge sox fan!

Lifelong Sox fan. The rest might be true. As Judge Schmales told Danny Noonin when he complained that he would not go to college if he couldn't get the caddie scholarship "well, the world needs ditchdiggers too."

What the hell are you talking about? What did Fisk win with the Sox? What respect did he bring? Frank Thomas was the White Sox.

Before Fisk signed with the White Sox the Sox were a joke. Remember the Uniforms and Disco Demolition? Fisk brought legitimacy to the orgainzation long before Big Frank was weened from the teet. I was a huge Frank Thomas fan too.......my point is that it is wrong to compare Frank Thomas and Carlton Fisk in the same breath when it comes to respect for the game (remember him chewing Neon Deion's ass in N.Y.?) and teammates. and his overall game was much more complete than the one dimensional Frank Thomas........the one dimension that Frank brought was some of the best hitting in the history of the game...........

Fisk is in the Hall of Fame....and so will Frank......
