It's been announced that "Ebert & Roeper" will be discontinued after August. Not that it's really been Ebert & Roeper the last few years, I guess it's really not a huge shock...

Ebert and Roeper are leaving "Ebert & Roeper?"

I'm confused.

Roeper couldn't come to terms with Disney; Ebert decided he'll leave, too. Expect them to show up under another syndicate.

I understand that...I'm just trying to understand the wording of that headline...it's almost like they expect the show to continue as "Ebert & Roeper" without either one of them there...

Richard Roeper is quoted as saying that the show had "never been the same without Roger", and several guest co-hosts had sat in with the Sun-Times columnist the last 2 years such as "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, rocker John Mellencamp, plus a couple of true film critics, the Tribune's Michael Phillips & the New York Times' A.O. Scott have sat in the balcony for Ebert, whose health has been waning. Roger's Web site today is less than thrilled over proposed changes in the format of the show that first aired in 1975 on our "Window to the World" and got syndicated by both Tribune Entertainment & Buena Vista Television, a unit of ABC/Disney, the last 2 decades or so. Roeper succeeded Ebert's longtime partner Gene Siskel a year after he died of a brain tumor in 1999.

Exactly. Disney owns the name of empty franchise. Yokes on them, if you will.

But they also own contracts with many stations, at good time slots. Do they dig up Michael Medved and rename and show "(s)TinkerBelle's movie reviews"?

For a while they've just been refering to the show as "At the Movies". They'll probably keep that name and have different hosts.

They say Roeper has a job lined up already (unlike North), but can't go into what it is yet. He's been doing work lately with Starz and Reelz, so he might end up on a show there.

As for Roger dodger, I think his TV days are unfortunately over.

Yeah I don't need to see Roger the Robot on TV.

I still like reading his reviews, though.

Yeah, I don't think you or anyone else will see Ebert thumbing movies on TV anymore either. As for Roeper's supposed "job lined up", there is a reason for why he can't say anything. He can't quite disclose his future plans, I think for contractual reasons...

A day after Roger Ebert & Rich Roeper parted company with Buena Vista Television, E! Online reports that E!'s own Ben Lyons, son of WNBC/New York film critic & Boston Red Sox fan Jeffrey Lyons, and Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz have officially been tapped as new hosts of "At the Movies" when it premieres this fall. What in the hell is "the House of Mouse" thinking? Thumbs down, way down!

Ah who cares. W_Z's movie reviews are better anyhow.

I like the idea of "Nick D. and W.Z. at the Movies". It rhymes.
