 Yeah, I'm married.

You and I have been mostly in agreement on this subject. I guess we depart right here because I don't consider being ordered to wrap my face by the government "small stuff". And I'm not a Libertarian. I do believe in the concept of the collective. If wearing masks actually solved a problem I would be on board. But it's just empty virtue-signalling or false comfort and I'm not sure which is worse.

Why don't you think the masks do anything?

Because I'm aware of just how small the virus is and additionally, I've heard more than one expert state that even the very best 95% masks aren't effective in stopping it. Of course, for medical professionals who are in close and constant contact with the disease it's better than nothing (plus masks prevent other germs). Still, we see medical professionals contracting the virus at a much higher rate than the general public.

Mandating masks for the public is just another empty "do something" gesture like preventing a family from barbecuing in their own backyard. It's faith rather than science.

I think the biggest impact the masks have is in limiting the dispersion range of a cough or your exhalation. So no, nothing in protecting you but perhaps making that 6 foot radius more effective.

Yeah, that's fine, but we're supposed to be staying at least six feet apart anyway. It would be pretty odd for anyone to cough or sneeze in another person's face in the current circumstances. Personally, if I had a cough right now I wouldn't go anywhere near other people.

How long until someone gets charged with a crime for sneezing in public?

Attempted murder. There's blood on your nose.

A friend was in his driveway working on a car. A guy wearing a bandana was walking up on him. My friend showed him his .9mm before he got too close.

It's gonna get hairy with the mask crap.

It sucks wearing masks, but I do think they help.

I saw an infographic somewhere that perfectly described why face protection still works even though the size of the virus particles may be smaller than the pores in the mask.

It showed that the viral particles are very rarely singular - they are usually clumped, and they get blocked by the pores much like if you tried to glue two or three basketballs together and shoot them through a hoop.

Personally, before I go out, I put a coffee filter in between my folded bandana to assist with this. Some people are using Paper Towel Sheets in a similar fashion.

Also, it has been speculated that initial viral load plays a part in infectability and severity of infection as well, where, if you don't ingest a large amount of particles, your body may be able to negate anything they might try to accomplish or at least greatly mitigate their goals.

One of my favorite scenes in Baby Driver is when Jamie Foxx tells Flea to pick up three Michael Meyers masks and he gets Austin Powers masks.

I stumbled onto this movie a few weeks ago on QuaranTV, and I must admit that it is one of the best and most entertaining movies released in the last 10-20 years. Shame it didn't win any major awards, but Kevin Spacey might have messed that up for them with his peepee touching.

I keep trying to find another movie like it and I cannot. It combines the grip and intrigue of 'Heat" with the comedy and musicality of "Pulp Fiction", but the way it groove and move along like a musical harkens back to the original 'Grease'. I also like the obscure songs it features that are all excellent and perfectly-placed.

I also invented my own hack for the mask:

In addition to using a coffee filter in the middle of the folded bandana, in an effort to both keep the coffee filter in place and also to help close off the nose and chin portions of the mask (also helps to avoid fogging of your sunglasses or eyeglasses), I take a strip of folded aluminum foil and fold it down flat to about 3/4 inch by 3 or 4 inches (leaving room for two final folds lengthwise), with the foil clamp off a bit of filter at the nose side and the chin side using 1/3 inch of the foil [leaving it 2/3 inch wide, for one final fold - see next]. Now place the filter in the center of the to-be-folded bandanna. Then fold down the top (nose) portion (clamping-in a bit of bandanna material [the very top], now using the folded foil to stabilize) over itself by half. This creates a way to adjust the mask fit flush around the shape of the nose and cheek so little to less air can get out around it. The one on chin-side acts to stabilize similarly if you repeat, but it is not as essential.

He lives in Chicago. What can you see, like 4 stars?

Looking at the night sky in Chicago always made me sad to see what the night sky really looks like outside light pollution.

You're thinking of Neil Steinberg. The only thing Dan beats into the ground are arguments.

Interesting column today:

https://670thescore.radio.com/bernstein ... pect-bulls

I'm assuming Bernstein is trying to insinuate that he was one of the consistent hard workers, but I know nothing of his coverage of the Bulls in the 90's.
