That's a decision for the BUSINESS to make. You think if JB goes "ok. fine. Do what you want" that all offices will be filled the next Monday morning?

It's pretty simple.

Most people aren't upset that they can't go sit down and eat in a restaurant. They're worried about the precedent it sets that government is able to tell privately owned businesses that they are not allowed to open until THEY say so.
I think that's a valid point but I'll also point out that most of the comments that I've responded to haven't been about the effect of the business owners. I'm not going to think a business owner who is forced to be close should be happy. However, when Frank argues with me that inviting friends over instead of being able to go a sports bar is going to have a serious effect on mental health then I'm not going to treat it like your much more reasonable take.

My wife can't get into her school if she tried. The keycards have been disabled.

I can't get into my office building without my keycard.

Forcing people to cover their face is a neat little tactic to dehumanize and humiliate people while flaunting dominance over them. We know this because the Muslims have been using it against their women to this end for centuries.

And as much as it pains me to say restaurants are crucial pillars of the American economy. As of 2018 people spent more money eating out than at the grocery store, for the first time. Fact is, eating out is a primary source of sustenance for a sizable portion of the population. Its not strictly a luxury anymore and you cant just minimize it by using the tired Applebee's line (are there any Applebee's even left in the world?). So closing half these places or making them subsist on a business model where they waste 90% of their floorplan on seats they aren't allowed to use does obvious damage, and then the knock-on effect on commercial real estate is going to be nasty.

Also civilian aerospace is dead. Boeing honestly may not make it, and that's your largest exporter in the USA. Half of that is their own doing, they have really fucked themselves up in a big way. But I dont think anyone expected them to roll over and die until it became clear, in the words of Warren Buffett himself, that "there are just too many planes".

That doesn't matter. Baby can walk into a school right now and he watched a movie on his couch so we're not locked down and everything is fine because he said so.

why hasn't someone come up with an effective way to keep fries hot & crispy for longer than 5 minutes ?

I love my place Chuck's but i stopped getting them after awhile bc they just dump them in the plastic clamshell container like a lot of others so after 30 seconds they steam and become mush.

Bagels, if in Styrofoam, open the box and poke holes from the inside of the container in the top. Make sure you don't have anything sitting on top it and it will allow the steam out. This will keep things crispier. Learned this bringing home a fish fry.

We did the math. Take a guess as to how much money these Dinks are saving each month by not going out...

$1,200

That is something Doug. Is that after you include any more you maybe spending on groceries and such?

We looked at our budget as well and I thought ours would be a little more, but it seemed to be offset by the fact that we are buying quite a bit more in groceries to fix at home.

Is that really funny? Yeah, it's just about a desire to eat at Applebee's. How could anyone think something so dumb?

The same dopes who have been posting STAY THE FUCK HOME for two months are now posting photos of their favorite businesses that are permanently closed with the caption SO SAD. As if there was no connection.
I agree that this is really sad for a lot of business owners, though many probably were going to go out regardless even with no restrictions.

I do think it's a little funny that a lot of the complaining about the restrictions are that you couldn't walk into a restaurant and sit down and instead you had to do carryout. I also gave bmac credit for not calling anyone a name.

Are you this out of touch? It is more then the business owners who are hurting. It is all their employees, suppliers, entertainment, maintenance workers exc.

Better to starve at home than die of COVID at work? Question mark.

You have a < 1% chance to die from COVID at work and a 100% chance to die from starvation at home.

The science and the data would concur.

Yeah, that's an all time bad thought there. There are so many bands out there that have to play 100-200 shows a year to make ends meet.

I'm definitely noticing women's eyes more.

We are most definitely spending more on groceries. We used to be in the $500 range but are up around $800/mo. It's mostly alcohol. The wife an I typically eat dinner and then snack, but that's it. She's been making a sourdough, so we've been eating bread for two months. I'm fat now!

However, we were going out 3-4x a week easy. We're also shopping less. Often times we'd go out to eat, but then stop at Dick's or Old Navy...Target. Shit like that.

Between not buying crap we don't need and not paying $7 a pint and $18 for a burger...we're saving quite a bit. Paying off them credit cards! And the Gov't keeps giving us money for some reason.

I've worn the same two sweatshirts and adidas warm ups for 57 days!

I think it bears repeating that the USA's largest exporter is in mortal danger and the market for its products has basically evaporated overnight.

Yeah, that's an all time bad thought there. There are so many bands out there that have to play 100-200 shows a year to make ends meet.
Not to mention that at some of the venues they play, 'smaller' bands probably make more profit from merch and Tshirt sales than tickets. I'm sure selling shirts online is the exact same for them as selling them in the venue.

And of course, people like Baby, Rick, and Golden Jet do not take into account that its not just the bartenders out of work at these venues. Its the lighting guys, sound guys, security, box office workers, custodians, and on and on...
