Such a different game. Today starters walk a guy and are taken out. Then Sutcliffe was way done and they just left him in. One extreme to another

Game 3 of 1985 ALCS on MLB Network now.

Blue Jays @ Royals. Costas and Kubek.

Always loved those days in the 80s when the Blue Jays were good.

Love the all-astroturf series too.

this was unbelievable.

So Fisk ended it in the 12th on his HR.

But I never knew so many things:
-this HR was in Game 6 of the World Series
-this was in extra innings

This has to be one of the greatest W.S. games ever. Right up there with some of the Braves-Twins classics such as Game 7. Unbelievable. SO many great plays.

Anyway, Don Gullett to start Game 7. I remember him as the Reds pitching coach. Never knew he was a Game 7 starter.

Also neat to see Fisk's on-field interview with Kubek after the game. He was a very articulate friendly guy. Always thought he was sort of a tight to the vest man of few words. But not the case.

I watched Game 6 from a hospital bed. But since there was nobody in the bed next to me and I was probably being discharged the next day, the night shift nurses let me watch the game until the end as long as they could close the door to my room so other kids didn't hear it.

UMPIRE ALERT!!!

Phillies Royals, WOrld Series 1980.

Neat!

Never knew anything about this World Series. Royals I guess were a good team even pre-1985.

But most importantly, the home plate umpire is hilarious how he calls strikes!

I think it's Data Demuth but my memory is lacking. Check him out!!!

HILARIOUS!

the thing I loved about this era, is teams stayed together for a long time. This seems like the same Royals team that won the World Series 5 years later in '85.

Brett, Willie Wilson, etc.

Phillies also have Schmidt, Pete Rose (who appeared in a World Series few years earlier).

The 80s were great.

interesting Cubs connection here.

Now it's Game 6 of the 1980 World Series.

Royals @ Phillies at the Vet.

So anyway, apparently Dallas Green is the manager of the Phillies, and Jim Frey managin' KC.

Just 4 years later Frey would lead the Cubs to the playoffs with Green in the front office. They said that Green was in the Philly front office before this too.

Hard to believe though, that other than 84, the Cubs were a complete train wreck with Green and Frey reigning. But I can see where and why they got them now. They werent just dummies from a scrap heap.

Attendance: 65,838 at the Vet.

Largest World Series crowd since 1964.

Thats amazing. Thats why I loved those old ballparks. Fit a shit-ton of people in there.

Hate how they build these small ballparks less than 40K these days, to look like Wrigley. Buncha cookie cutter shit.

Carlton pitching.

Good battle against George Brett and Brett got a hit against him.

Carlton went at least 6 IP in 40 of 41 starts in 1980.

Thats amazing. You figure 37 of those starts were regular season, youre lucky to get 30 or 32 out of guys today.

this umpire is also obnoxious. But comes off more rude. The game 4 guy was just funny but harmless.

The cameraman who captured the iconic shot of Fisk waving the ball fair had not intended to have the camera in that position but was dealing with a rat problem:

Braves @ Marlins, Game 5 1997 NLCS.

on MLB-TV NOW.

Greg Maddux pitching.

Always fun to watch him pitch. Glad theyve showed some of his games during Chinese Virus era.

Surprised to hear Jim Kaat in the booth. Always liked him. He is with Costas and Joe Morgan on the call.

Also this is your chance to see JEFF BLAUSER. This was his last year with the Braves before he would come to the Cubs the following year and lead 'em to the playoffs. Also future Cub Fred McGriff is at first for Atlanta.

I dont know who's on the call, but I swear it's the dude that narrates on the Cannon theme opening. And his voice is identical the way he introduced the players in the field, as the narrator introduces the actors for the Cannon episode, showing them inside a circle.

Just before this they showed the 1952 World Series Yankees vs Brooklyn Dodgers.

I caught the last out.

Didnt know they televised this so long ago. Had to be one of the first televised WS. Anybody know when the first one was?

Crowd is very lively. Game 7.

Also, this is your chance to catch Davey Johnson as a player. Looks the same as he did as a manager.

This big blonde-haired Powell is huge.

Never heard of him. He is a monster. Has the stance of a Balboni somewhat.

Was probly a slugger.

Cubs down 4-0 and they're doing that gay extreme outdated 2015-2016-era Maddon-style shift

Dodgers @ Cubs, Game 4 2017 NLCS playoffs

on MLB Network now!

This was the game where Kiki Hernandez had 7 RBIs and a grand slam at Wrigley, as LA exacted revenge for the 2016 playoff loss.

Tune in now!

Kershaw pitching.

The Hernandez game was Game 5, I was there for that great Quintana start. Cubs won Game 4 in Jake's last start as a Cub.
