Wikipedia being unreliable is not a political problem - it is everyone's problem.

1) Why?
2) Wikipedia has always been unreliable. Hell, I killed Chris Boniol for a couple of weeks.

Wikipedia is the best and most important website on the Internet. Closely followed by youporn.

It's an interesting blog post. And the founder makes many good points. It should be neutral, but we can't have institutions like that anymore.

I lost all faith in Wikipedia when an non-entity like Billy Dec was allowed to maintain his own entry.

This reminds me of the 60 Minutes story of the ACLU. An organization that used to have values. Now it get's involved in things like endorsing Stacy Abrams in a state election. We are abandoning facts to appeal to some higher form of "truth" where we just know things need to be fixed regardless of what the facts say. We are literally re-writing our history to fit some strange social justice agenda.

And now the ACLU is actively pursuing litigation in opposition to the due process guarantees installed in college sexual assault tribunals.

There was an article a few days ago—NY Times, I think—regarding the liberal bias in network evening news. Same conclusion—they are liberal, believe they are doing a greater good, and will never go back to the Walter Cronkite days of simply reporting the news.

IMO, this is what gave rise to Fox News and the echo chambers we have today. Journalism is dead.

it doesn't matter that these matters have been considered for centuries by some of the finest scholars in western civilization. We can throw it all out to try to create some more perfect utopia.

I think you have it flipped around. Fox News and it's massive success pushed everyone to each side.

People don't want unbiased news. They want news that tells them what they want to hear.

I think there is a health appetite for unbiased news. But it's likely not easy money like partisan news.

The market has really shown that there isn't a place for it. You get the unbiased news, but then you read a story you don't like and retreat back to the comfort of the liberal or conservative news source that won't make someone feel bad because Trump/Obama did something right/wrong and they were willing to say it.

I think news like that has an audience. Frontline for example. It's not not as profitable. I am happy to hear criticism of Donald Trump. He's clearly a disorganized mess, but the over the top attacks and attempt to blame him for everything it's just not news, it's boring. But some people seem to lap it up.

There is some of that but even local news got infiltrated by it.

I think I asked it before and never got a good answer but no one can even come to a consensus on what is an unbiased news source. I think the only one that even came close was the BBC, which is ironic for many reasons.

I think PBS is pretty good overall as well. I also enjoyed Vice on HBO. I am certain that both would be considered left leaning by Fox News fans. Fox News is pretty clearly trash with a few exceptions.

Honestly the news is just a revenue driver. Usually you don't get a full picture on events until it's looked at and written up by a historian examining what occurred using multiple sources.

I've edited or added to about one thousand articles on Wikipedia on my old account. Others have changed things due to politics once or twice, maybe. They more often quibbled with sources or interpretations, or they wanted to add another point of view. Just my experience.

On my newer account, I pretty much just add stuff to pages that have something to do with The Virginian.

The weekly Vice long-form news show is great and very fair in its coverage. The daily Vice News Tonight show they used to air was very left leaning though. I gave that one up pretty quickly.

If it isn’t something like “Anne Francis, who guest starred in the 6th episode (“Gun Guest”) of the 9th season of The Virginian, was quite the dish.” I will be Highly disappointed.

 I've had a few of those removed. Even Yelp just sliced up my review of a funeral home in Champaign. Big Brother, man.
