Our dumb fat president getting ready to turn the army on its own country sounds like all the pretense we need to cancel the season outright.

I still think that expansion to 32 teams in 2024 is the answer. They can ask players making over $10m to deferhalf the overage and get paid back in full out of expansion fees. The union gets 80 more guys and a permanent DH., the minor leagues get to save 8 more teams (go to 128).

The owners get cash flow, realignment into conferences, the full expansion fees minus the interest on the deferrals, and a reason to go to a full 16 team playoff like the NBA.

There's nowhere to put two more teams, Western/Eastern Conference structure can fuck right off, universal DH can fuck right off, 16-team playoff after playing every day for six months can fuck right off. Maybe they're better off never coming back if that's what we'd end up with. Top to bottom horseshit.

I completely agree with you, but the one thing we've most certainly lost is the universal DH. That's coming whether we like it or not.

I don't see them expanding...took them forever to get the league's balanced out as it is.

Expansion?!

Every league that isn't the NFL should contract by at least two teams. The NHL and NBA could and perhaps should contract four.

I think Charlotte could handle a team, Montreal also.

Maybe expand with some teams from Japan/Korea and Cuba/Dominican/PR?

Montreal's dead, their second sport is soccer now that anglophones have moved out and allophones have moved in. Vancouver would be a better bet, but I don't think the renovated BC Place can host anything but soccer, and Bell (I'm assuming this would be a Bell project) may not feel like paying for a stadium and an expansion team just to have more on TSN than The World Series Of Trout Fishing during the summer. Plus it's on Pacific Time, fat lot of good that does everyone out east.

Every overgrown New South city you're thinking of is fool's gold.

Japan is too far, Cuba or D.R. could work though.

You'd have to have the Dominican team domiciled in Orlando or something, at which point it would functionally be an Orlando team anyway. America is a third-world country but the Dominican is really a third-world country. You can't put a team there!

Charlotte has been growing fairly quickly, about 2x the population of K.C. now. I know they have interest in minor league teams( most will be defunct)

Almost everyone's from somewhere else and the people who aren't from somewhere else like the Braves or Orioles. Fool's gold. Same story with Raleigh, and Nashville, and Orlando, and The Growing Northwest Arkansas Area that Ogie's always on about, all of it.

Raleigh and Charlotte are good AAA cities for baseball, excellent 15k capacity parks and loyal fans, but it is just something to do until the ACC seasons start. Putting MLB here would be like all the attempts to put pro football in Birmingham.

Won't the minor league teams be gutted and pretty much non existent from here on in?

They go to 16 team playoffs, then I am done with baseball. The whole point of a long regular season is to determine who is worthy. Why the hell would I watch a single regular season game when sub 500 teams are going to make the playoffs. It already annoys me with the NHL. But the difference with the NHL is the playoffs are always fantastic and regular season games move at a face pace. No four hour marathons.

I think 50 games and a 16 team playoff is perfect....for this year.

At this point, I can do without it. NBA and hockey will be back with some dumb setup and that should fill the void until football starts.

50 games is not enough, even if you started July 1st theres no reason to not have 75 games in 90 days.

You think they notice relatively few people seem to care if it comes back?

I think Ricketts is too dumb to notice that, other owners probably see the writing on the wall.

Have playoffs in September since there's 16 teams. If you can't make a 16 team playoff, more games aren't going to help you.

16 teams in the playoffs is absurd, leave it at 10.

Honestly, I guess I didn't know how much I didn't need MLB until I went without MLB. All the awful rule changes of the last ten years and the promise of many more, this effort to speed up the games by four minutes at the cost of ruining the character of the game entirely. The gamesmanship is just out of control, everyone cheats their ass off. Except really when I say everyone, I mean the seven teams that are actually trying to win and not improve their draft position.

I thought you were a Sox fan, there best team in over a decade and you don't have any interest in watching?

If the Sox are good I'll watch no doubt, but my love for baseball has waned dramatically. The analytic takeover, the pace-of-play changes, getting rid of stuff like home plate collisions...

It would be cool to add a second hypothetical World Series title to the trophy case.

I feel kinda bad. A number of kids I know are going to get drafted soon and most won't care.

College kids are playing an invitational tourney now. Waiting for July 1 is a joke.

These owners are ass holes. Especially Ricketts crying the other day.

You're gonna take a loss. We get that. Join the fucking club with the rest of America. You can survive it.

Nobody wants to hear it. Especially from Tom Ricketts. Some owners made their wealth. I respect those guys more. Tom didn't. His Daddy made the money and gave it to him to buy the Cubs.

I realize I'm in the minority, but I really miss MLB. The NBA and NHL could disband tonight and I wouldn't lose a second of sleep.
