Players would be guaranteed half of their prorated salaries, per Ronald Blum of the Associated Press. If the postseason goes off without a hitch, the players would collectively stand to earn 75% of the prorated portion of their original salary guarantees.

Looks like Hello, 50 game season.

Yeah. Start it in July. Playoffs mid September and be done around Mid October when chances for ok weather are still there.

Looks like 50 games is the best solution for everyone.

I'll take it.. I'm not happy if that's the outcome. Hard to crown a champ on such a paltry regular season. It be like the NFL playing 5 games and then playoffs.

Just call it 50 ....for now....still have almost a month until actual play. Some governors are allowing fans. I know 25% capacity in Texas.

I'll take the 50 and playoffs, just want games.

In the end, whether they play 50, 75, or 162, you will have 1 teams fans happy about a championship and 29 teams that look to next year.

No draft comp is a good thing for the players..right?

Easier to sign a FA when you don't lose a draft pick.

I'd like a 75 game minimum.

NBA and NHL playoffs will on TV plus the glorious NFL with training camp, preseason and kick-off quickly approaching.

People only watched baseball because nothing else was on.

The funniest thing about this whole thing is that MLB owners keep on claiming that the more games that are played the more money they lose, and every time the players come back with "What if we play even more games?".

It looks to me like the owners don't want a season at all, have already decided against having one, and are "negotiating" in bad faith simply for public relations purposes.

Why is it in bad faith? It's obvious that the loss of fans in the stadium is going to hurt MLB more than any other sport. The biggest expense for each game is player salaries. If those stay the same then it's going to be a massive loss of money.

To me, it seems like the owners are basically saying "We are going to lose 40% of gameday revenue, so we can't pay you 100% of your game check". My guess is a lot of people on this board have seen salary reductions from this. Is it that out of line to think that baseball players may see the same?

The owners repeatedly giving them the same deal over and and over again is a waste of time. Lets get the season started! It's like August 1st in a normal year and everyone is tied for first. Should be exciting!

Owners finally getting in the neighborhood of reality. 72 games, 75% of salaries with an added 5 to 10% in pool money from playoffs.

I'd still rather have the 50 and a 16 team playoff starting like the 1st of September. Just have a real exciting asterisk year.

Money wise players are still better off with 50 games. 72 games at 75% is like playing 54 for full prorated money. So they are getting four full extra game checks for 22 additional games.

Here is how the last month has basically gone:

Owners: We will pay you $1 per game
Players: We want $2 per game
Owners: Ok. how about 4 quarters instead?
Players: No
Owners: Ok. Would 10 dimes work?
Players: No
Owners: Final offer, 5 dimes, 2 nickels and 40 pennies.
Players: No

No, this was not their regular jerkoff offer. As I read it, it's regular playoffs, not extended, and with that playoff pool money, players would end up getting between 80-85% of salary. Their previous offer was 50% plus extended playoffs where they would end up getting a maximum of 75%

Yeah and the players offering to play 120 games at no salary reduction.

They agreed to a pro-rated deal in which the owners "forgot" to include language about no fans.

The players have also been saying just impose the 50 game schedule and be done with it.

Say you came from another planet and looked at the 162 game schedule. Would you go, "that's insane"?
Baseball season from Spring Training to World Series is 8-1/2 months. If you are looking for a reason baseball isn't America's game, shouldn't you start there? Wouldn't a rational being say 120 games is plenty?

Exactly! Do the players get a bonus when things go well? If not, they should continue to tell the owner to fuck themselves. If they want to destroy their billion dollar businesses by trying to squeeze the players let them do it.
