Ok tired to turn the dryer on and pressed the start button and it just buzzed and nothing worked.

went on youtube and one guy said manually move the barrel in a counter clock wise direction while holding the light off switch . I did this and it worked.

But how long will this last? Will the dyer go dead again very soon? or did I buy myself some time (1 month?)?

youtube guy said it's not a bad motor but maybe a component that went bad which is cheaper.

My mom used to put clothes on one of those when I was a kid. I assume sometimes birds would shit on them, no?

There might be a sock or something clogged in the rim. I had this happen. So feel around.

I thought mine was broken. Then I investigated. Found the sock. Pulled it out. Then she ran perfectly.

I don't know what type of dryer you have. But mine is top loading. With a rubber rim type of thing. Sock was there. And I pulled it out.

It wasn't dangerous. You don't do it while it's running.

Well, then I don't know. Don't know about the front loading dryers.

Sounds like you're fucked.

Excuse me, my problem was with the washer. Not the dryer. That's what I was describing.

So I'm of no help here.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a top load dryer.

I know. I corrected myself in the post before.

It was my washer.

Every time I called to get the dryer fixed, it was a $200-250 job. And my cost benefit calculator always determined it was better to buy a new one. Even if you drop for the repairs, that old dryer probably goes out again in 18 months.

Yep. That's the same strategy on everything that needs to be repaired. Might as well get a fucking new one of anything once you have a problem. For the most part. Not always.

This is the right answer.

Ya buying a new one is a pain though.

Why top load dryer? What’s the advantage?

Yeah, buying a new one and having it professionally installed is a real pain compared to trying to fix it yourself.

Reliability. He said Speed Queen makes the best but everyone wants all the bells and whistles on front loaders that end up breaking way sooner they should.
