I like it Murph! Getting a bit sick of Stoney getitng his shots in and not giving the same criticism to the Sox.

The whole Marlins $21M v cubs $118 M must have been stated by him about 5 times last week. Every segment on the air. Now HIS SOX with their $121 Mill payroll lose to the $50 million payroll and traded 2 All Stars and this aspect is not even discussed.

Also Stoney on Smardzja, "He looks great so far, but let's just see what happens" I agree with Murph 100% here. Anyone can sit around and what until a guy goes bad and then say "I told you so"

The fact is name another guy who came up, throws 99 and looked like a great addition to a team.

Murph's still mad at Stoney about the Jacque Jones spat from last year.

murphs remarks about jones last year were stupid. that was a great radio segment though. the hostility was palpable that day.

If you look at Samardzija's entire body of professional work, you would be wise to take a wait and see approach before making a declaration. Even in college he sported an ERA over 4.

Things seem to have clicked for him soon after he was promoted to AAA. He suddenly gained control (the walks went from about 1 per inning to about 1 every three). However, he spent so little time in AAA that it might just be a situation of seeing him at a peak moment.

The scouting report I heard is that after 30 or so pitches his performance really turns bad. Maybe the organization realized this and has now placed him in a position to excell.

As much as it pains me, Murph is the only calling stone out on that one. Heard stone say that a few times, but fails to mention the sox payroll versus the twins, kudos to murph. :|

Murph has been ripping Stone's opinions--both stuff Steve says on the Sox broadcasts as well as on his regular Score appearances--every chance he gets ever since the Jacque Jones thing last year, which was some of the most uncomfortable radio it was yours truly's pleasure to hear in a long time. I assume it's no coincidence that Stone does not do a segment with Murph any more?

This is one of those fights where I'm not really sure who to support. Stone can get awfully long-winded, repetitive, and self-righteous with some of his commentary and yet now we have another example of someone that Murph can't seem to work with. I've never been a huge anti-Murph guy like a lot of people here, but at some point, when is it his fault that a lot of people out there just can't seem to get along with this guy?

Stone is a pretty bright guy and while I like Murph, Murph's baseball acumen is no match. If only Stone could answer a question in under 5 seconds, he would be brilliant in my book.

Steve Stone is the second most overrated sports personality in Chicago (next to Ditka).

Yeah, we get it-slider low and away will get him here. You say that eight times a game. You don't get credit for it. He should go back to advocating for trades like he did a couple years ago when he (seriously) suggested trading Aramis Ramirez for Cesar Izturis.

He's a good analyst, but nowhere near the genius that he thinks he is.

Did Murph not want to work with Stone or did Stone not want to work with Murph? Or was it mutual?

I find it hard to believe anything Murph says after he said earlier in the year that Lee should leadoff because he had the best OBP on the team. Well if he did that at least Lee wouldn't hit into so many DP's.

he's like Bernsie to me...I listen to hear him get his know-it-all act busted, and every once in a while he does...he and Bernsie were together on the '04 Cubs making the playoffs, and when they had to backtrack for a week, it was excellent radio...

I need a good analysis, not Nostradamus...the old one...although Stone is good at analyzing too, but they play up his predicting ability...if he's so good, why doesn't he want to manage?

Agreed... I just try and focus on part 1 of your statement. He is a good analyst and I enjoy listening to the games on the radio a lot more this year.
