(670 The Score) Bears president Ted Phillips believes fans will be in the stands when games are held at Soldier Field this fall.

Phillips expressed that line of thinking during a Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce virtual meeting Thursday.

"We’re still extremely hopeful, confident that we’re gonna have a season with fans," Phillips said, according to the Sun-Times. "It’s only good business practice to look at contingencies, and if we’ve learned anything in the past three months, it’s to expect the unexpected.

"But we’re still extremely hopeful."

Phillips didn't provide further details about how many fans might be in the stands or how the logistics would work amid social distancing guidelines in the coronavirus pandemic. After its teams conducted their offseason work virtually, the NFL is planning to open training camp as scheduled on the field in late July.

The Bears and the rest of the NFL are preparing for positive COVID-19 cases. The league hasn't yet revealed its full policy for how testing will work.

"With football, you have more physical contact, so we know there’s going to be some positive tests," Phillips said, according to the Sun-Times. "We know there will be in every sport ... When there’s enough testing and there’s quick results, we’ll be able to show the players that they can be kept safe.

This team will never win a superbowl as long as McCaskey/Phillips is running the show.

Dear Mr. Pootons,

We hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. We’ve all experienced the drastic change in the world over the past three months, and through this unprecedented time, your support, your patience, your calls and emails, and your continued loyalty has been a constant reminder that we have the greatest fans in all of sport. We are energized by your passion and are diligently preparing to open the 2020 Bears season on schedule. Our goal remains to bring a championship home to Chicago.

The experience this season will be different. For our coaches, our players, our staff, and our fans. Adaptability and flexibility will be key in order to field a winning team and to deliver value to our most important fans, our Season Ticket Holders. We will provide you information as we receive it to help you make decisions regarding the upcoming season. We will be operating under guidelines from the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois, and the National Football League. Fan protocols and stadium operation policies will be clearly communicated to you at the appropriate time, including health and safety measures which will be our number one priority.

The presence of and the exact number of fans that will be allowed into Soldier Field has not yet been determined. Our hope is to build a model that provides the opportunity to see the Bears play this fall to as many Season Ticket Holders as possible. We will communicate your options as soon as a plan is finalized. Given all of the current uncertainties, we want to inform you that one option will be to provide you a full refund for the 2020 season while still retaining your ability to renew your season tickets in 2021 in your same seat location. We encourage you to call the Ticket Office with any questions regarding your account. Again, we look forward to sharing additional options for this year, and how you can experience Bears football. We greatly appreciate your patience throughout this process and will send follow-up communication as soon as we have details.

Best wishes and Bear Down!

we (not me) are seriously considering taking the refund for this year. It will probably be difficult to find high end clients (usually older) who will want to go and my mom refuses to let my dad go (she was already putting a hold on thanksgiving, which I guess is understandable considering their age and with three grandchildren who will just be home from college)

Me, not we, also strongly considering the refund option. Given all the uncertainty we have already passed on parking for the year which I am glad we did.
