As someone who just wrote two large checks for the first semester of e-learning, there was no bait n switch. Both universities have sent many emails about what is going on, which was mostly e-learning. The costs to run these places doesn’t go away with e-learning. The problem is these costs are way too high regardless of in person or e-learning.

His daughter ended up going to Denison when she had guaranteed acceptance to Cornell and Duke? I understand wanting to blaze your own trail but is the opportunity to experiment with a co ed in for the weekend from Oberlin really a sufficiently big college experience to forego an elite school?

I am hearing across the board that colleges are encouraging kids to report other students who are breaking the various agreements to quarantine. You have just as many kids coming from homes that have been in isolation since March as you do kids from homes that are anti mask, so they have no qualms about ratting people out.

My wife came home last night telling me one of the daughters of the women in her social group got suspended from U of I after her roomate informed administration that she went to a frat party.

My son told me in the first couple of days at his school that a kid got the boot for having a party in the dorms. That one seemed blatantly stupid.

Given her father's elitist leanings, I was surprised by the Denison choice as well, but I've been told by some on this board that it's a good school.

More importantly it’s a very liberal school.

It is a good school. I heard its a beautiful campus as well. Still, with cost not being a factor and acceptance assured, I don't think there are many who would make that choice.

Did he say she was accepted at Cornell and Duke? It's not a slam dunk these days, even for top grades/tests and legacy connections.

It is probably not right to read into Dan's thoughts on this subject. That said it really depends what his daughter wants to do. If she is to be an English major like Dad or whatever artsy thing Mom is it is a fine school and Ivy is a waste. Furthermore, acing Dennison and going to a great grad school if that is her route is the good choice. Cornell, Brown, Yale grad school is better in the entire equation of life.
