I’m sure I’m not the only one.

First time I encountered it was in an old Hendrik Hertzberg (a smug liberal from the New Yorker) essay I read in high school about replacing the national anthem. He blew through all the usual suggestions, then quoted "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing," and said something like "sounds pretty inspiring and wholesome, right? Yeah, that's a little something called The Black National Anthem. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)" He couldn't actually print the sunglasses smiley insofar as it was the New Yorker and that icon may not have existed yet anyway, but you sure felt it.

It'll take you a week to get back up. That's a win for me.

While it sounded bad initially maybe it's better than disrespecting the national anthem.

Instead of doing something like an anthem, maybe they just play some rap or hip hop music.

Oh indeed.

Was listening to the news in the morning not long ago and there was a quick report about some cops that had been shot -which isn’t uncommon news at all btw- but I guess the NFL and no one else cares about any of that.

This ‘cause’ is so manufactured and full of shit. Most of these ‘causes’ are nowadays but social media gives them so much influence it’s ridiculous. It will be interesting to see how many people back away from giving football and other sports their attention if this pandering keeps up.

My knees are gone. For you youngsters out there, don't play sports through your 40's. You'll shred your meniscus. You'll get it cleaned up, sure, no problem. The problem is when arthritis comes a calling. And it will come a calling.

Meh, I played sports in HS and College and have been playing softball 3 nights a week, umpiring a couple more times a week with a few volleyball and basketball leagues thrown in with no knee issues and I’m 45. It’s just luck of the draw, I’m fat too so it’s not like I don’t put a lot of stress on them.

STOP!

I said the same thing at 45.

At least stop the basketball.

The National Anthem started getting played during WW2, the flyovers after 9/11. Cancer awareness, who the hell knows. I'm just tired of it all. Watch CNN or Fox News if you want that shit. Now we're going to get stuck with a bunch of Twitter nerds (who hate sports) injecting themselves into the NFL and dividing everyone and ruining the fun. GET RID OF ALL THE SIDE ISSUES!

The fly-over is sacred though. I think they should even go further. Get the whole fighter wing out there, have a second half time fly-over, maybe even bomb Canada to the delight of eighty thousand drunk fans.

When we were at peak Kaepernick and everyone was talking about it, I stopped watching pre game/post game and other games. Watched the Bears and then turned it off. Followed fantasy teams online. When it started to fade I came back. I will do the same this time around if they want to shove it down my throat again. Fuck em!

I'm hopeful to avoid the arthritis for as long as possible. I don't take medicine unless I feel like death is around the corner. I don't want to have to pop pain pills daily.

One by one I stopped playing sports. It wasn’t worth three days of recovery afterwards. By 40 I had stopped all of them.

Style of play and politics are the main reasons. Same thing with basketball; tired of the constant jacking up of threes with no emphasis on the mid-range and post game.

I might listen to the games on the radio if I have nothing going on and catch the highlights on one of the local news stations.

They can play that song all that they want but assholes are assholes and they will still kneel when the actual National Anthem gets played. This is a stupid action on the part of the NFL. BOycotts are going to occur big time.

Going through the same kind of shit now. Hurt my knee about 4 months ago and in some bad pain. Can't get treated because of the fucking China virus bullshit.

I generally stopped when a friend crossed me over really hard. I remember going one way and trying too hard to get back and then going straight down . And then the pain of an embarrassingly blown out ankle. Oh the pain.

Now I wish he'd done it 5 years earlier, might've kept the arthritic knees at bay a few years longer.

I took out my left ankle last summer, mid June when I hit the first base bag. Still not sure if I rolled it or jammed it but I dropped. Thought it was going to be good to go by playoffs for sure in 6 weeks but probably after a week or two. When hockey season came around I just said, not healed yet so I better pass. Thought I’d be good by November. Stepped funny coming out of the tractor in April and I was limping on it for a week. Ollllllllld.

It looks like Colon Kaep is all over the media waves now calling the 4th white racist holiday, the National Anthem racist and other sundry claims.

I stopped watching pro basketball when LayBrawn took his "skills" out of Cleveland and into Miami coupled with the Bulls firing Thibs. I'm in pretty much the same spot now with the NFL and the Bears and their stupid decisions.

yeah, KD....that is pushing the envelope way too far. Leave basketball for the younger 20 somethings. Your ACL will eventually blow up on you.

No....huge waste of time, money, and resources. I like it as much as the next person, but it's been way overdone.
