The Yankees have acquired Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers for Kyle Farnsworth.

Strange deal. Both players are on the downside of their careers but they fill needs for their new teams. The Tigers lose a leader and the Yanks lose a headache.

why do teams do these horrible trades with the Yankees? Why would anyone want to make them better, even marginally?

They have to fill their rage quota, and Pudge doesn't cut it in that area.

I'm not sure about filling their rage quota but they will now far exceed their drunkin asshat quota.

It turns out the Yankees will be without Jorge Posada the rest of the season due to season-ending shoulder surgery, and I don't think they were too thrilled about Jose Molina & Chad Moeller trying to catch the likes of Mike Mussina & Andy Pettitte...

Rodriguez will be a FA at seasons end and with posada being out, the Yanks needed someone behind the plate. IRod has been hitting better of late and can still get it done behind the plate. As for Kyle, he'll be an FA after the year and with the pickup of Marte, he's not needed anymore.

i know this is a long time ago, and he has had his problems since, but for a period of time when he was in the cubs bullpen, he was absolutely dominant, he had dazzling stuff, striking guys out left and right. then, just like marmol, he started falling in love with that slider and he was never the same for the cubs. he threw that fucking low and away slider OVER and OVER and OVER, and the league stopped swinging at it, or they sat on it and pounded it onto waveland.

Farnsworth refused to pitch inside when he was with the Cubs, so batters would hang out over the plate and hit his slider.

He struggled with his control at times too, it's not like he could spot his fastball with any regularity.
