It has come to our attention the bumper music selection at the station has been neutered. I listen to the Boers & Bernstein show every day and I feel like that is the show in which the restrictions on what music can and cannot be played is most noticeable. While it may not seem like something even worth complaining about, someone obviously saw fit to change the policy and I would like to take this opportunity to express my displeasure about it. While I enjoy a lot of the songs that have been chosen as "acceptable," the lack of diversity of the music going in and coming out of breaks now sincerely detracts from the uniqueness of the shows and the station as a whole. The more Bon Jovi and U2 and Thin Lizzy I hear on a daily basis, the more and more WSCR sounds to me like any number of classic rock stations that I don't listen to, and the more and more to me it sounds like the competition up the dial, to be honest. Again, 10-15 seconds of bumper music may not seem like much, and in theory I am sure it didn't when the decision was made, but the change is very obvious and, I feel, unfortunate. Bumper music may only account for a small portion of a show's dynamic, but I think it is an important one and I feel like this change is definitely for the worse.

I would like to once again reiterate that I am not complaining because I don't like the new selection of songs. Quite to the contrary. I hear a lot more songs that I know and like now than I did when the mix was more eclectic, but because the selection is so vanilla now and it undermines the personality and attitudes of the hosts and the shows. After a while, it all feels very forced.

Yeah, way too much butt-rock lately. What gives? As if Dan or Jason would be big Thin Lizzy fans.

Cub game bumper music used to be pretty much restricted to Steely Dan, but then for a while they started using "The Real Slim Shady" and some Backstreet Boys shit, and that was weeeeeeeird, and now apparently anything is in play. I'm not sure if I like the extra effort to make the callsign sync up with the beat of each given song, but at least they took "The Real Slim Shady" out of the rotation. Once again, as if Pat and Ron are big Em fans. It pretty much has to be late '60s/early '70s songs that feel summery for Cubs on the radio: Steely Dan, anything from the first two Chicago albums, that sort of thing. They could stand to open the coverage with any one of the old Cubs tunes, "Go Cubs Go," "Hey Hey Holy Mackerel," "Beautiful Day for a Ballgame," something like that rather than that lame-ass 4/4 pub rock "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

I must give big props to WGN for using Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady" during Cubs games because, frankly, that tune is beyond reproach. Otherwise, you can't tell the difference between Cubs and B&B bumper music these days.

i remember that back in the day, B&B used to use the sea and cake as bumper music. that was really amazing. almost as bizzare as Jim Rome using the Jesus Lizard for the same.

the cubs bumper music isnt bad - they've been using 'jesus just left chicago' by zztop - you cant beat that.

It seemed like the Cubs had been using the same bumper music for at least several years, so it's good to see a change, period. The TV broadcast plays a lot of trendy new music, I assume that's Len Kasper's influence.

And I didn't notice the Score's musical shift until this post, but now I can tell. It is a shame...I remember a while back Bernstein playing some Lupe Fiasco and having a little discussion about it. I'd like to hear more interesting stuff like that.

If you are handicapping the field of rock stars whom I would like to slap upside the head, Bono is a whole hell of a lot higher up than Bon Jovi. If you cannot appreciate blasting Slippery When Wet on a hot day with the windows down (and the t-tops pulled and no shirt on), then I feel quite sorry for you.
