Everyone knows that's bullshit based on nothing but faith.

Perhaps that statement is even false.

But we spread germs every time we breathe.

And if we wear a mask, we can reduce the amount of germs we expel.

I'm trying, and have been trying for at least a month to understand your #RESISTANCE to wearing a mask.

Most germs are too small to be hindered by the types of masks most people are wearing.

Why do medical professionals wear them at all?

There is no doubt that masks lessen droplet spread by some measure.

It seems like you just aren't willing to make that trade off. Lots of people agree with you.

Medical professionals wear them to stop bacteria that may cause infection.

There are plenty of studies regarding the efficacy of masks being used by the general public that predate the politicization of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's a long thread illustrating in real time how masks became political:

But you said it right there- we spread germs every time we breathe. That being the case, why not wear masks at all times? Is that what you're advocating?

Why do you ignore science?

It's you that is ignoring science. Every thought you have expressed re: COVID is clearly informed strictly by your politics.

Maybe because the lead medical team of the country ignored it 4 months ago. Do you think we'd have NEAR THE PROBLEM if they hadn't done that? Actions have consequences.

People want to feel as if they are taking action. It's the illusion of control.

Yea I saw you post that in another thread. Its not devastating for anyone but people who believe media is never wrong or that science doesn't evolve with new information.

As Rick pointed out they used to say smoking wasnt a killer.

In fact the guy endorses a national mask mandate in the second tweet

This started from a tweet from @jaketapper wishing @realDonaldTrump had urged people to wear masks back then.

In hindsight, that’s a good wish to have. But let’s not pretend that the media was urging mask adoption then.

Here’s @CNN in that timeframe. https://t.co/Jtz10kbR0K

What about the Harvard study I posted from 2013? Is that far enough back to not dismiss?

You don't want to wear a mask because you don't think its worth it.

That's fine but saying the masks do nothing is to stop the spread is just not true.

I'm not sure if it's true or not, there just isn't evidence that suggests it is.

None you care to acknowledge.

Was the 2013 Harvard study on how virus spread can be lessened based on 2020 politics?

No. That's not what I'm saying. But they aren't learning anything new about masks or masking healthy people.

I don't care if they help or not. I don't want to wear one. I'd bet about half or less in neighboring states are wearing them.

Very honest answer.

And agreed on Indiana and Wisconsin from what I saw.

Lots of people feel that way though.

At least Spaulding is honest enough to say it.

Others couch it in "fake science".

Sweeden is a situation that doesnt get mentioned much. No real lockdowns. No mask mandates and yet things are getting better.

Another place not mentioned as much as other states is California. They locked down super early and have been as strict as any place and yet things are still going up there.

Strange stuff going on.

I don't think this is as "dangerous" as you all seem to think it is, so wearing a mask is stupid. I think it's worse that you feel you have the right morality to make the the judgement you are making about what I should and should not be doing.

Well I guess you don't believe the ones saying they have learned more about masks stopping the spread.

I would guess nothing could possibly convince you though.

You might be misunderstanding me. I'm not arguing that proper masks worn properly by every person in public spaces might not slow the spread. It's simply impossible to make that happen.

And is "slowing the spread" really the goal? New York hit a high and fast peak and then declined and Cuomo is a hero. Florida slowed the spread and flattened the curve and DeSantis is a buffoon. But now we're back to talking politics again.

The science is simple. The politics is not.
Quote:
"The exact effectiveness of cloth face coverings is still unknown, but it’s believed that cloth face coverings—like surgical masks—can provide a barrier against larger respiratory droplets to keep the wearer from spreading an infection to others. Because many people may be asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers, cloth face coverings could help reduce the spread of the disease."

Quote:
The N-95 respirator is the best protector against respiratory infections. It gets its name because it filters out at least 95 percent of airborne particles. It also fits snugly around the edges to reduce leakage of infectious particles into the airway.

This makes N-95 respirators ideal for healthcare workers who are caring for patients with highly contagious diseases (as well as construction workers trying to keep out harmful microparticles from wood, coal, etc.). It protects the wearer from breathing in infectious droplets and getting sick themselves.

For the slow to understand people on the board - Unless you are wearing an N-95 mask you are not filtering out any of the China virus. Cloth masks only prevent large droplets, so unless you are spitting all over the place when you talk or sneezing without covering your mouth, then the mask will not provide any additional protection.

Follow the 6ft rule and wear a mask when in a crowded area and you should be fine. Washing your hands is more important then covering your face with a piece of cloth.

So the South Koreans are promoting it because they seek to influence American politics?

The polls demonstrated that over 50% of Republicans were in favor of the measures taken by the Govt by the way.

All over the place in this post

Spraying droplets to all fields

I don't believe anyone here is suggesting cloth masks protect the wearer

Its just the next level of covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough

You should wear 2 or 3 then, I can go without. Science.

Statistically, it doesn't warrant people wearing masks for the rest of our lives. All these rules we are making, and sides we are setting up aren't good. When is it safe to demask?
