Interesting chat the last couple days on B&B regarding the status of the window for the White Sox. Do you agree that the window is closing quickly and if they do not win it this year it maybe a long time coming?

What will the next 5 years look like for the Sox?

Brian "Whipping Boy" Paruch wondered the same thing on his show bridging fans to last night's White Sox/Twins' game on 670. It's hard to say given all the free agent movement and all the $$$$ that seems to change hands, and Brian also said that the "best team doesn't always win the World Series". I'm not sure if the window is indeed closing, especially in this era of Major League Baseball, and with the Wildcard in play more than ever.

The window may be closing on this particular team, specifically the offense, but the pitching staff (if Denks, Floyd, Buerhle, and Vazquez stay healthy) should remain very solid. Offensively, we may have a new IF next year - Konerko could move to DH to replace Thome, 2B may be open competition between Richar (or a free agent), Ramirez will probably be at SS, and Fields could be at 3B....

Is this really worse than what we currently have? Crede is a good player, but his health is a an issue....Cabrera is hitting .265, and Konerko is having a god awful season..

Players get old. Others step up.

No one predicted the Sox to win the title in 2005.
No one predicted the Sox to be in first place this year. In fact, most had them as fourth.

Somehow we should expect to be able to say that the window is closing?

The Sox have had 2 players emerge that look to be starters for many years to come that were no where last year. Quentin and Ramirez were not in the equation last year. What if two other players emerge next year?

The Sox have old players who need to be replaced. The window is closing on most of the remnants of the 2005 Sox.

The future isn't nearly as dire as it sounds.

BD, Alexei is actually hitting .312 this season following a 2-for-4 night in Minnesota with a run scored. Most White Sox fans & insiders think that A. Ramirez will be the team's shortstop next season, but I'm not so sure I'd move #10 from second base where he is now.

My bad - I corrected that, was referring to Cabrera...I'd make the move to SS for Ramirez - everyone says that his best position is SS, why not put him where he is best at ?

BD, Alexei is a natural shortstop, but he's done extremely well both offensively & defensively since taking over at second base full time in Anaheim. I'm a little reluctant to move someone who may be best at SS, but is just as good at 2B.

I trust Ramirez at 2B, he's done a great job, but I think he'd at least match his production, and be more comfortable, at his natural position.

The theory of no one picked the Sox to win in 2005 and most picked them no better than 4th this year,doesn't hold water. Well when have the Sox not been picked to win it all and have.ONCE

They were picked to win it all by many in 2006, or at least win the division, and they were watching the playoffs on TV. Your posts don't hold water.

I'm reminded of something Dan Patrick said last night on 670 following the White Sox winner in Minnesota, and the trades involving Ken Griffey, Jr. coming to the Sox & Mark Teixeira to the Anaheim Angels..."In it to win it".

Boers said after last year that the Sox "window" was closed. He ridiculed them for bringing back the vets that the Sox did.

Boers didn't know the window was even open at the start of the 2005 season. What the fuck does Boers know?
