I am as pumped for this group as I have been since probably the Mc Dowell, Fernandez, Alvarez, Bere, Ventura and Hurt team. 2005 didn't produce this kind of vibe going into the season.

Still, I just cannot count on rookies to carry things.

If I threw all caution to the wind, I'd say this is a team without a glaring weakness, ready to compete for a World Series* this year.

I think he will have better plate discipline than Cameron (Puckett?) and could be almost as good defensively. He just looks like a 5 WAR average x 10 year peak player in CF. Only injuries or stubbornness can stop him.

This team is where the Cubs were in 2015, they will make a wild card at least from a bad division, and if any of their young pitchers not named Giolito break out they will be tough in a 5 game ALDS.

The best hope overall for Sox fans honestly is if Jerry croaks in the next couple of years and that new owners will spend to win a couple of championships. The Sox could take over a significant portion of the city and suburbs if that happens. The Cubs appear to be on a downturn and the Sox might have a chance to get themselves a bigger piece of the pie if they play their cards right.

I can't wait for the upcoming Elmhurst Steve post that says the "Sux" will not make the playoffs due to the pitching and young guys needing more development, but they could still get a Wild Card if they get lucky and everything goes their way. That way he can return in September and say, "See I told you so!" one way or another.

Well no matter what happens with the bat he's probably going to be the best defensive center fielder in baseball for at least a couple seasons. So that's not too bad.

6 games in and he still hasn't been held hitless yet. The kid is a true pro.
