it's not hype when his OPS in the majors is .979 and his WAR is .8 after 9 games.

After 9 games Mike Yaztremski and J.P. Crawford lead their leagues in WAR. Robert will be great and all but 9 games is still hype.

Kyle Schwarber was batting .429 after 12 games.

And cubbie fans here had him as the next Babe Ruth.

He's much improved since I stopped giving my money away and Maddon stopped trying to make him a lead off hitter. His 2nd half last year was quietly really good.

Glad we can agree hyping prospects is both fun and stupid

If we were talking Eloy I would agree. America makes a solid point about his CF defense and the impact that's having. That's not just gonna go away

I agree, but I liked the kid all the way back to his IU days. And hated when the cubs drafted him, just like the kid this year.

Yep, he's literally robbing sure hits and covering enough ground to make Eloy's defensive deficiencies manageable.

He gets a great jump on the ball, has amazing sprint speed, takes good routes, and has an arm to match.

This kind of knock-on effect makes Robert's impact tough to really quantify. He makes all sorts of things possible.

If they can somehow have Abreu, Eloy and Vaughn all in the same lineup that's a coup.

Vaughn looked ready. Abreu to DH next year, I suppose.

no way Vaughn is here before the ASB if at all.

I'll say Abreu is the opening day 1B even in the last year of his contract (2022)

Robert's floor comp without a lower body injury is probably Devon White. And that would mean that pitchers found a weak spot and he could only hit .270/.320/.420 with league leading range and a plus arm. And nearly 2000 games played.

Hopefully, you won't be able to stop him. But, you know, it's a championship year, whatever's best for the team.

I get the same feeling about him that I did about Frank Thomas when he first came up.

I would of played him in RF while Marza was on the DL.

He's probably the best White Sox centerfielder of all-time already. But it's an admittedly low bar.

Is he better than future HOFer Palka? That is the really important question

Well, he's only played ten games but he's easily better than both those guys. Ken Berry was a .250 career hitter and I'm not sure he ever hit double digit homers in a season. Rudy Law was a nice player but he was only with the Sox for a few seasons. And I couldn't really say he was better than Aaron Rowand. The guys in the conversation are Lemon and Landis. Johnny Mostil if you want to go back that far.

Those were my thoughts watching him in summer camp. I'm not so sure now. It seems he doesn't want to allow it to get to 2 strikes. He made an adjustment. Which is good. He certainly will have to keep making adjustments.

Yeah. That a good comp. Different kind of hitters and completely different skill set but yeah, when Frank came up, you just knew that he would be a great hitter.
