This was a fucked up game. Yeah, Irish Boy, Griffey might have cost us today. We also got screwed by the umps when they should have called a double play on that liner. Cost us 2 runs. Should have been out of that inning.

Let's not forget the main reason we lost today. Buehrle.

I had forgotten about that liner. Yeah, that was a big moment.

Mark Buehrle couldn't keep the baseball down, and the Royals took full advantage. Yes, there wasn't anything wrong with the screen. The Royals sported powder blue jersey tops in a rare national TV appearance for them.

I think the Royals sported them as road unis in the '80s, including that infamous game at Yankee Stadium where George Brett wanted to strangle Tim McClelland after he was called out in the "Pine Tar" game in 1983...

No. It's similar to those uniforms but these are a little different. Those old uniforms were a darker blue than these. And, if you remember, those uniforms in the 80s were blue tops and blue bottoms. Royals where their white pants with these tops now.

A lot of teams had that look in the late 70s and 80s. The Cardinals, the Royals, even the Cubs. Weird look. They were sick of the grey on grey for road uniforms, I guess, so they went to blue pants/blue shirts.

Tigers and Twins both lost tonight. Still hanging on to 1st place. Have held first every day since May 17.

We're not the best team in the AL. Rays, Red Sox, and Angels are better than us. But we just have to win the Central. Twins have flaws too. It's going down to that last week in September. We all have to realize that and sweat this thing out.

I get home from a lovely morning at the Frankfort famers market and what the shit! 21 runs in 2 days.....the ball club needed pitching not Jr. The fight between Olivo and Carrasco a girlie fight. Then the Hawk compares Olivo to Man Mountain Dean ( for you younger ones Dean was a rassler that was 6' about 3 spins) I am not satisfied with not making the playoffs year after year not once every 3 or 4 years! I guess Frank C is figuring out ways to deny that this team isn't really that good!

This ignore feature is wonderful.

Pitching has been horrible basically since the break.

Should be an interesting series next week against KC. They hit a lot of Sox batters during the last homestand, now this minor dustup. Swish got hit good too...somebody needs to zing a fastball to the hip of a Butler or Teahan next Tuesday or Wednesday.

No they are not happy. They just reflect their feelings here, like they do at the park, when things go poorly-they don't show up. Now that the team is in 2nd place I am not surprised. They can't beat the "we are still in 1st place" drum anymore. Its a horribly flawed team with older stars that are unlikely to get the job done. Its a poor division, but pitching generally wins in the end and the Twins have the better and more consistant starters. Plus, with Liriano back...

We will be ok once we get out of those sweltering areas.

Our pitchers have trouble adjusting to extreme heat for some reason (see Texas).

The team has been shook up a bit by a new presence in the clubhouse (Griffey), and there will be an adjustment period, as Ozzie uses such happening as an excuse to shuffle things up and make lineup/personnel changes that could not be made before for fear of upsetting the apple cart.

Alexei Ramirez, if he would lose that initial "giddy-up" in his break jump to second, would steal over 50 bags a year.

I think we will be fine - the talent (pitching, defense, hitting) is still in place.

We need some home cookin'.

Several excuses are always less convincing than one.

Bad way to end a 10 game road streak, but given the road record of just about everyone in MLB not surprising.

It is going to be a dogfight to win the division. It is going to be just as tough to fight for the wild card.

The Twins still have a very tough end to the season with a really long road trip too. Everyone needs to hope that the Yankees/Red Sox/Rays all stay very close to each other.

Enjoy the season for what it is. It's a team that was picked to be fourth that had new players emerge, some older players perform well, and other players falter. The team is in much better shape than it seemed before the season. About half the starters are getting old, but the Sox have some good young talent to build around in the future too. The supposed terrible White Sox farm system has still not stopped them from filling positions.

It should be a fun end to the season.

I think the season, regardless of whether the Sox make it to the playoffs, has to be considered a positive one. The team is mostly an older one, so in that respect the window is closing, but a team could do a whole lot worse than to build around a nucleus of Danks and Floyd in the rotation and Quentin in the outfield. The farm system is still bad, but the pitchers alone are two surprises that no one was counting on before the season, so that helps things somewhat.

Don't forget about Alexi Ramirez.

The key to the White Sox staying competitive for the next few years will be the above mentioned players + Brian Anderson and Josh Fields meeting the potential that some think they have.

Question for people who know more than me about the White Sox:
How long can we expect AJ to be a capable catcher? He is getting older, but he doesn't seem old yet.

You don't need much at the plate from him since he's a catcher, so in that regard he could keep up the production you need for a few more seasons. He's OK defensively, except for throwing out baserunners, where he's horrendous. I think you trade that for the production at the plate though, and he's not such a good hitter that you could move him to a corner outfield position. He doesn't have any leg problems as far as I know, so he could have a slow, graceful decline at the plate like Pudge.

You got that right! What in the hell was that? The Tigers & White Sox had a donnybrook many years ago, complete with fans chanting "DETROIT SUCKS!" after the benches cleared twice at U.S. Cellular Field...
