Agree wholeheartedly. He's sabotaging his players and can't be trusted going forward. I thought the whole point of this movement to purge all the crusty old baseballmen from managing positions was to have cool young guys who do what the MBAs tell them to and aren't bound by stupid unwritten rules. But I don't think Lou Piniella would shit on his own player for hitting a grand slam.

I can understand not going first to third or stealing bases when you're up seven or eight runs late in the game like that. But to stop swinging? That's ridiculous.

Even then, is the team not supposed to shoot the ball and just take a shot clock violation? They still have to run their offense.

Just like the NFL. You're up 20 points with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter, you're still running the ball. If a tackle is missed or somebody slips and the running back breaks one he's going all the way to the end zone.

Here is a novel concept. The manager who has a team that is down 7 runs should have walked out to the mound and screamed at his pitcher to throw strikes. Don't want to give up a grand slam? Don't load the bases. Don't want to give up home runs on easy pitches? Don't get to a 3-0 count.

If you don't want the the hottest hitter in baseball to hit a HR because you are up by a lot, then what is he even doing in the game? You have 30 man rosters this year. If you don't want any more offense then empty the bench.
