I'd draft Tatum over Mitchell 10/10 times. And that's no disrespect to Mitchell.

Of course..so would every GM in the league. FF gets goofy sometimes and puts his blinders on..there is no changing his mind. He thinks Lonzo is good.

FF is on an island on this one. The eye test and stats say he's wrong.

Neither do you but at least I actually watch as opposed to ignore it only to pop up around playoff time every year to bestow the world with my infinite wisdom.

Jayson Tatum will be All NBA this year. Donovan Mitchell will not. About All the eye test that one needs to see.

You’re salty because every year at playoff time Mitchell makes you Tatum fanboys look ridiculous in this discussion.

Mitchell stuck last year in the playoffs. He also stunk in the Houston series his rookie year.

I try not to make drive by observations. Best leave that to you.

Drive by? Look at how old this thread is. This isn’t a new observation.

At his size Mitchell needs slightly more to be at that elite/franchise level. Just don't see it. He's an inefficient tweener who should get to the line more often than he does. I see him as maxing out at All NBA second team once or twice. Iverson he is not.

I'm going to echo what Parkins' friend Nick Wright said on Twitter yesterday. If Mitchell were doing what he's doing in a Boston Celtics uniform, a lot of people would be saying to build him a statue right damn now.

It would be much more impressive if everyone didn't already know that Denver's defense sucks ass.
They also know that he shitted the joint up in the last 2 series that he happened to have participated in. A few games doesn't erase that.

Great find. I don't care if he's a clown or not. Although, I agree on his bashing of Ainge not wanting to part with his picks for difference makers. And I think what he tweeted yesterday was true. People were ready to build Isaiah Thomas a statue.

But those were merely Boston fans. The difference with Tatum is that he is generally regarded as one of the top 10-15 players in the league. Prior to the shutdown he was playing like a top 5 player. Mitchell has never been anyone near that. He has had a few great games against a really bad defense. .

Tatum is currently standing on Mitchell's head.

I dont see how either side can think this is an easy decision. They are both really good young players and they are both getting better. You couldn't go wrong drafting either one going forward.

To me, Mitchell is a nice piece while Tatum is toward being a franchise player.

I don't buy Ron's argument about east coast/Boston bias. When D Will played in Utah he always got the national respect he deserved. At one point writers wondered if he was better than Paul. I don't see anti-Utah bias.

Thats not the point. The question pertains to whose better. Undeniably that person happens to be Tatum.

That's a terrific example. I'm a Williams fan but I think he got national respect because he and Chris Paul were the only true point guards of the future. That '05 - '10 NBA point guard window (before Rose, Westbrook, Curry, and Wall arrived) was dominated by Nash, Williams, and Paul. There wasn't much else happening with point guards around the league. Except Tony Parker. He was always slept on though.

I don't think so man. I remember him putting up 50 in a playoff game just like Mitchell. They wanted to build Thomas a statue.

Mitchell has been great, but I'm not putting ANY stock in stats/performances in the easy living Bubble. These guys need to prove they can do the same things in massive arenas, packed with screaming fans and after a season full of the riggors of an NBA travel schedule. The bubble has proven that those things matter quite a bit as evidenced by how easy it has been for players to perform offensively in the Bubble.

I don't know if it's more the bubble than it is contemporary NBA basketball. Drive and kick out for threes on every possession. No post game whatsoever. Emphasis on perimeter shooting and weakened defensive principles means skewed scoring averages across the board. The lowest scoring team this year would have finished as the second highest behind Don Nelson's Mavericks (prime Dirk, prime Nash, prime Jamison, prime Walker, useful Michael Finley, etc) in 2003, and Nelson was allergic to defense. That's why all this talk about "historic" performances from Mitchell, Murray, etc are bullshit. Any decent motherfucker can score 50 when final scores are in the 130-140 range.
