Well, now Thornton loses it but he pitched well.

You make him go 4, a lefty vs the mostly dominate righty line up, and you won't make Jenks go 2. Makes no sense.

Sox do not deserve to be in 1st place with the way they have played the past month.

Well, we've got the top of the order coming up. Their studs our done in the bullpen. Maybe we can pull it out. Quentin or Dye can hit a homer with guys on.

I think Beardown actually brings up a valid point about being short in the bullpen. Since the Griffey trade, the White Sox have only 11 pitchers on the roster, and Ozzie prefers having 12. The top of the Sox order will be dealing with Zumaya in the bottom 14th next trailing 8-6. OUCH!

BTW, this is Game #2 the Sox will have lost at least partly because of Griffey in center. Considering he's only played four games, that's not particularly good.

Cabrera singled to lead off the bottom 14th, but Pierzynski popped up again! Quentin doubled to the opposite field, runners at second & third for Dye. Ground ball booted by Renteria as O.C. scores! Thome strikes out for the second out of the 14th...Swisher is next.

Just needed a fuckin fly ball from him.

Man are the Sox lucky to have this game. But a win's a win either way.

SWISHER DOES IT!!! 10-8 Sox win in 14!!!! YEAH BABY!!!! A three run homer wins it for the White Sox, and the Mariners have taken an 8-7 lead vs. Joe Nathan and Minnesota in the bottom 8th....

Both teams are gonna need a big outting from the starters tomorrow (today?), especially the Sox.

That was a lot of fun to watch. Thornton did an incredible job pitching that long and keeping us in the game. Huge swing going from thinking they were going to lose and Minn would win to the exact opposite. Now let's hope we get a good long start today to let the bullpen rest up.

Can they stop trotting out Wasserman? I know pen is depleted but every time I watch him, I get visions of Shingo come back.

Disclaimer: I fell asleep after about the 10th inning I think (I was exhausted!) so I didn't see any further bungling in CF after the Polanco hit.

Kenny Williams says that it is "easier to play CF than it is to play the corner." That is true in so far as fielding goes... the balls will cut (curve) into the corner OF positions, and you have to play more difficult caroms off the walls. Those problems are largely absent in CF, but the one major disadvantage of CF is that you have a lot more ground to cover. I don't care if Griffey misplays a ball off the corner fence and a baserunner can turn a double into a triple as much as I care that Griffey can't get to a hit in CF and turns an out into a double.

Anderson is significantly worse in OBP than Griffey, slightly worse in AVG than Griffey, slightly better in SLG than Griffey, and significantly better in fielding than Griffey. Perhaps an approach where Griffey starts in games with ground ball pitchers (Buerhle, Danks, and Contreras) and use Anderson w/ flyball pitchers (Floyd, Vazquez) would work better. Or you could always start Swisher in CF, and move him to first once Konerko gets his strikeout and GIDP... then if you are down runs you sub Griffey, if you are up runs you sub Anderson in CF.

Something has to be done other than trotting Griffey out to CF and letting him play all 9 innings there on a daily basis.

Ever since the White Sox acquired Ken Griffey, Jr., they realize he's not the player he once was. When this trade was made, most thought it would cut Paul Konerko's playing time. I'm not so sure about it, especially because Guillen seems to lack confidence in both Brian Anderson & DeWayne Wise as nothing more than one-dimensional players who are good with the glove, but not good at the plate. Sox fans were scratching their heads in the 10th inning last night when Anderson pinch ran for Konerko, but didn't see him in the 11th on defense. I was one of them.

He's only been here for 4 games, slow down.

I'm reasonably sure "Dirty 30" will be back in the lineup tonight, but I'm not sure if he'll be in center for Griffey or first base for Konerko. I know Justin Verlander starts for Detroit this eve, and if "Paulie" & "Griff" are not in the lineup, DeWayne Wise might get the call in center field because Verlander is a righty.

Twins won this afternoon. They avoid being swept by the Mariners.

While John Danks appears to be giving what the White Sox need right now, I have to correct myself in regards to tonight's lineup. I thought Wise would be in the lineup in center field with Swisher at first in the wake of last night's incredible 14 inning win and the fact that Verlander is a righty for Detroit. Konerko is still the first baseman, but Griffey is on the bench with Wise & Brian Anderson. This is what happens when you have a future Hall of Famer in Griffey, a guy in Konerko that everyone thought was going to lose playing time when he arrived, and 2 other outfielders that can't seem to crack the starting lineup consistently.

W_Z, Verlander has shut the Sox down following the 3 run first featuring the Thome homer...

Is this Juan Uribe Appreciation Night or something? Hawk and DJ have been tossing his salad the entire game.

If you're talking about Uribe's defense at third because Josh Fields simply isn't ready...
