Yes. I'm an angel of mercy sent by God to remind you heathens that you're in danger of your immortal soul.

I could see that.

Interesting that you capitalize God but not Biblical.

I actually would fire up the podcast for Anusface AKA Penisbreath.

That dude was mentioned many times during the recordings. I have some questions.

Ridiculous firing.

People in media bag on people all the time.

Just tonight Deshaies compared somebody to Monty Python. It normally wouldnt'a phased me except I thought fuck, how come nobody is offended by that, yet somebody had to start a shitstorm about this Taylor thing?

This was a silly joke. A harmless tweet on a computer screen that nobody should be phased by. I mean fuck, most people dont even know what AVN stands for (including me) until now.

Anyway, as far as McNeil, this is partly his fault too. If he said this on the air, nobody woulda noticed, nobody woulda cared. Because the only people listening are people who are fans in Chicago and woulda just chuckled it off. Or your co-hosts woulda quickly steered the conversation away from it.

The problem when u put this on social media is u put yourself on an island away from your bubble and now you're vulnerable to some dummy in central Nevada who wants to fuck your career up even though he's never even heard of you.

Why public people post shit on social media is beyond me. The guy is a public figure and can say what he wants on his show. What is he gaining by putting it on social media?

It's not partly his fault. It's entirely his fault.

but others saw it as an opportunity for what they think will advance their careers.

Imagine caring so much about women's issues that you leave several jobs that have a daily, substantive impact on the issue in order to work part time in an ancillary of sports.

No mitigation arose this week at WSCR-AM (670) when ol' Dan McNeil went on Twitter, did his business regarding the "Monday Night Football" attire of ESPN reporter Maria Taylor and was fired.

McNeil was guilty of absolutely nothing out of character or unpredictable.

He was sexist, he was impulsive and he generated a line that in days of yore would have called for backslapping guffaws and a round of Malört's at the old Mill Gate Inn in his native Northwest Indiana.

Greg Couch who wrote at the SunTimes for years chimes in:

Quote:
Don’t get me wrong: McNeil needed to be fired for what he said. But these talkers are paid to run all the way up to the line and push it and say the most outlandish thing without crossing over . . . much. McNeil crossed way over.

This is just what these talkers do. It’s a dance, and they’re paid to be super-aggressive.

It's funny how much "crossed way over" has changed in twenty years. Now a stupid wisecrack about a leather outfit can get you fired. Back in 2001 Mike North and Fritzy could talk about tearing towels off heads with impunity and Terry Boers could use terms like "mulatto" and "fagula". Mac would have been better off looting and burning a Louis Vuitton store.

By 2006 Fritzy was banned for life for saying "flim-flam artists."

One thing I have learned from this fiasco is that Chicago sports media is full of burritos.

I think that pretty much is the story. Mike North's beer-distributor friend had a weekly spot on the terrible morning show and one time he said something about flim-flamming in reference to some Jewish businessmen, so management banned him. I'll google it and edit an article in if I can find one.

EDIT: it was worse than I remembered

No action was taken against him, however, shortly after 9/11 when he threatened to use a baseball bat to assault "a bunch of goofy-looking Muslims with the towels on their heads when they're walking down Devon Avenue like they've got nothing to be sorry about."

What many people don't know is that Julie actually put the barf towel on her head to protest Fritzy.

Fitzy's Night on the Town is likely the worse segment from the pre-Goff era. A lot of people got away with things on 9/11. Howard Stern called for nuking every Muslim country in the world and turning them into parking lots.

For the next Score anniversary are they going to have to have a disclaimer about how it was a different time period and things are being left in as a lesson as to how things have changed like my kid has to see when I show him Bugs Bunny cartoons?

There is a lot there to laugh at. North objected. And Fritzy referred to it a a firing. For an unpaid segment.

Here is a profile of Fritzy in the Chicago Reader:

Quote:
North says, "I met Fritzy in high school. It's really nothin' to brag about, but I guess since we made it we can--we dropped out on the same day. Senn High School, over here on the north side. We didn't care about school--he'd go to the track, I'd go to the beach. We lost touch of each other in our 20s--he got married, he had some other things goin' on, he was goin' through wife after wife after wife. I was just tryin' to keep my head above water, pickin' up paper for the Park District, makin' a coupla hundred a week. Then, when I started at the Score, I was goin' downtown, and for the last eight, nine years we've been very, very close."

KONSTANTELOS, who has been appearing on his friend's show for over a decade, was pulled from the air over NORTH's reported objections by PD MITCH ROSEN, who said that the station "felt in the best interest of our advertisers and our listeners that this was the proper action to take."

KONSTANTELOS told FEDER that he was "unjustifiably fired... MIKE and I make comments about all kinds of people all the time. But I know what I said was not meant to be malicious."

I will say the "we hate lots of kinds of people" defense is an interesting one.
