Winged Foot can be a bloodbath. Just ask Phil

Looking forward to it. I hear the rough is brutal. I don’t remember this course so it will be fun to get acquainted with it.

Jason Gore, who now works for the USGA, was on PGA Rasio saying the rough was 7-8”. Said he played the course over the weekend and lost 8 balls by the time he was finished.

Saw a picture yesterday of a strand of grass from the rough that was a foot long, they had it next to a ruler.

I saw them play a 16 ounce can of an Arnold Palmer in the rough and it disappeared.

The coverage has started on the Golf Channel for those that enjoy punishment.

I’ll be watching this afternoon. I like McIlroy this week.

Spieth, starts out 3 putt bogey, then his drive at 2 gets stuck in a tree, double. He then makes a par and now 3 straight birdies.

New old grip on TW's Scotty for the Open. Ditched the PP58 for an old-school Lamkin deep-etched model.

Once again, proof that newer is not necessarily better when it comes to golf gear.

Some fairly low scores and a lot of players under par here early on.

I was able to watch for about an hour or so. Conditions are pretty tame right now. They said the greens were probably a bit under 13 right now but that they would continue to get faster each day. Some low scoring but I don't anticipate that it will continue consistently. Winning score could still be over par. Very visually pleasing course to watch on television.

I read something talking about one of the reasons the course will be easier today and tomorrow is to get the full field done in the day. If they would make it difficult, they are worried they want finish. Don't have to worry about that on Saturday and Sunday.

I'll be relying on my standard rule for the US Open in that I will only be watching if there are less than 5 people under par.

Scoring is way too low. JT at -5, a bunch of guys at -2.

Because it's September and not June?

If that's the case and it doesn't rain, the weekend tee and pin positions are going to be insane.

Meanwhile, Zach Johnson's putt on 1 was insane. You could show me the read and I could putt it 1000 times and not make that.

Correct, they have around 2.5 hours less of daylight.

I do think it is cool that the Golf Channel/NBC show every player in the field on TV. Very cool for the families of the Amateurs and obscure club pro who makes it in.

Nice to see Pieters up there. Illini guy. DJ build with a ton of talent. Detry is another Illini with a nice start. Can’t believe the scoring. Hope the course shows it’s teeth a bit today.

5 players are under par on their round today from the morning wave, Winged Foot is fighting back.

Reed only hit like 5 fairways. His short game is very good but you can’t keep doing that on this course

Reed's wedges and irons are really dialed in. Look out.
