He was a ROY, he has a MVP. He has about 5 great years, and a couple of OK years, and that is it. Is that enough these days? Played all for one team, but usually that only matters if you had about 10 great years... not 5 great years and another 7 so-so. He was still hitting HRs at the end of the career, but the Ks were just killing his value... 25 HRs and .196 average with a .257 OBP in the last year -- that's not so hot. I would have him in the Phillies hall, but no thanks for the MLB.

Five years as a top 5 guy qualifies someone for the conversation. I'm awaiting Hawaii's response before I close the file on this one, partner.

This isn’t the basketball HOF. This one has some type of minimum standards I would assume? How is this even a discussion?

is this the house of fatties or the hall of fucking fame? no way. he had some good years and he was fun for awhile but no, i'm gonna go full bernstein and ask who does he replace in there? see, the hall of fame was built so you can find out about guys like vladimir guerrero, not ryan howard. i'm pretty sure god invented google for people to find out about ryan howard.

Gut reaction was no. Checked b-r and he's short on all the Hall metrics and has no Hall of Famers in his similarity scores (a veritable who's who of Big Non-Hall Dudes Who Whacked Dingers: Mo Vaughn, Jeromy Burnitz, Frank Howard, Richie Sexson, and both Fielder pere and fils). Also, Philadelphia doesn't have the media complex that Boston has to elevate HOVGers to HOFers, so he's screwed in that department.

That 08 WS team didn’t have a single HOFer...even Utley’s numbers are nowhere near being good enough

If he is lucky, he will stay on the ballot for a second year. But he will probably get as many votes as Bill Mueller (4) and drop off the ballot mercifully after that.
