This is depressing. Pace needs to go, NOW.

Wow. Has Pace drafted a single offensive player who is above average at his position? Maybe Cody Whitehair?

Whitehair got abused yesterday and has looked sub-par so far this season.

I'm with you TM, I just want Pace gone at this point.

Yeah, Whitehair has never impressed me, but I keep hearing "experts" say he's pretty good. I don't see it.

It's not just Pace that needs to go, though. I've been fed up with Nagy for a while. If the Bears finish 8-8 or 7-9 due to a bad offense, he should go as well.

If Pace goes, then Nagy will not be far behind.

Pace and Nagy will both be back next year unless there is a Trestman like collapse.

Pace's contract is up after this season. Nagy has one more year to go. I don't think they're tied together and would think Nagy's leash is a little longer. Pace would have been extended already if there was any confidence in him.

I still think the Bears will be lucky to finish 7-9. It would be so "Bears" for that to happen, yet they still make the playoffs and they subsequently extend Pace

The roster is an absolute mess and that's 100% entirely on Pace. The Bears are going to be seeing end of the Wanny era fan anger / absence if Pace is extended.

we may not think much of nagy but he does have a 23-13 record

kind of like when lovie was fired at 81-63 and we didn't think it could get worse

Lovie took over a 4-12 team and had them in the playoffs two seasons later, and in the Super Bowl The Following season.

Lovie had the intangibles - he could get a team to play hard for him, he commanded respect, and the culture he created translated into on-the-field success when he had the right mix of players. He never established consistency on offense and seemed to rely too much on his OCs rather than taking ownership over that side of the ball as well.

Nagy appears to have those intangibles but, unlike Lovie, he doesn't exude expertise in the area for which he was hired, save for what looks to be an outlier year in 2018.

Ditka also got fired. Unless your name is Chuck Noll or Bill Belichick, head coaches are hired to get fired. Nearly every coach in history ends up running their course and sometimes a change is best for both the coach and the team.

Drafting stiffs like Kmet shouldn't doom Nagy.

The draft night call and bro fest they had with Kmet was reminiscent of a Wayne Stylie post.

No, but being hired by Pace should. If you fire Pace you don’t force an ineffective HC on an incoming GM, you let that GM go and get his guy.

It’ll be up to the new GM if he wants to let Nagy coach for an extension.

We don’t know what will happen if they fire Pace.

we've seen how this scenario plays out before

new gm has to keep the coach. coach has a resurrection in his contract year forcing them to sign him to another contract. coach returns to previous suck after he gets the new contract but the bears are stuck with him

We’re getting ahead of ourselves anyway.. I’m with a lot of you on being comfortable having my mind mostly made up about Nagy, but let’s give it a few weeks with Foles and see if this thing improves.

I’m not holding my breath or anything, but I’m going to reserve overall judgement on this thing for a few more games. Foles will now be the 3rd QB we’ve watched under Nagy (2nd veteran who’s supposed to ‘know this offense’) so I think after this sample size we can come to a pretty accurate conclusion.

And George and Ted bring in Ernie Accorsi for advice.

I would bet he gets one more year with Nagy. The argument will be that it was a strange year with COVID -19. They could not practice in the offseason. Foles showed improvement. Etc. Etc.

That's how this franchise rolls.

I had no idea that Pace was extended to match Nagy's contract.
I'm guessing then they'll NOT be extended and will be evaluated by the team's 2021 performance. There is zero draft capital left to do much to fix the team for 2021.

Both of them being extended in any way would be pretty horrendous. Both have very underwhelming performance reviews on their resumes in current roles.

Lovie didn't become a dumb coach when Tommie Harris went out with an injury and they lost the Super Bowl because of it. He became a bad coach when he started influencing Angelo left and right on player moves.

Pace is the bad guy here. Sorry

I actually forgot: Love had the Bears in the playoffs in his second year, SB in the third year.

When the team did not suffer injuries to key players, Lovie got the most out of the talent on the roster.

I’m a Lovie guy, but in hindsight his influence on the offensive coaches was the beginning of the end.

I championed the Martz hiring when it happened, but then soon realized edge rushers had become too good for an offense to rely on the QB doing 5-7 step drop backs.

Also, trading Greg Olsen was one of in a very long line of bad GM decisions in that era.

Agree he was sloppy on offense. Wasn't as committed to continual improvement as he was on defense. Angelo traded Oleson tho.

Wasn’t the story that Greg Olsen didn’t fit in Martz’s offense?

Which led to speculation Martz wanted Greg gone.

Idk how approaching his prime Greg Olsen wouldn’t fit in anyone’s offense.

The Olson trade kinda sorta ended happily I guess since the pick we got from the Panthers was combined with another pick to score Brandon Marshall.
