Passan does seem to have a hard-on for the guy.

He does. I was wrong on that. I like Passan as a reporter though.

But DUIs are pretty dangerous and stupid.

Guy in his 70s gets his 2nd DUI the day before he's hired seems to be newsworthy to me.

as long as he's not driving the team bus i don't really care

But yes obv it was quite foolish of him and makes the Sox look incredibly shady

Mully was making me the leap to he's an alcoholic. He's gonna be sauced everyday in the dugout !!!

I don't give the first one a pass but I think we all kind of understand. Hopefully it scares you straight and go and sin no more. The second time gets no such understanding. At the very least he should be sent to some kind addiction counseling. What is the freaking need to drive when drunk at 75? He has all the money in the world to call a cab, towncar, uber, rickshaw, etc. Its dangerous behavior that shows really poor judgement.

I simply don't know how they hired him knowing this info. If they didn't know, I don't know how they keep him.

Bochy is still available. So are the bench coaches I liked. I didn't particularly care for Hinch or Cora anyway. This is an easy reboot with some incredibly well respected people available.

It's indicative of a list of other possible problems. He clearly can't control his drinking.

No worries . Wait until Passan’s next blockbuster about the time LaRussa made a rolling right on red .

I just don’t think it should disqualify someone from managing a baseball team .

1 DUI, ok mistake made. 2? You might have a problem. Especially if you are past the young and dumb stage.

We will agree to disagree on this one.

Sox can keep him if they want, but what an embarrassment for the organization to have a 2x DUI drunk as manager.

The "multiple DUIs are not a big deal" is an odd stance to take

The Sox should embrace this. Have MADD sponsor Free TShirt Thursdays. Give away free keychain breathalyzers to anyone who buys a beer. Bring back the bullpen car, but put one of those interlocking devices on the steering wheel.

He just needs more after work programs to better occupy his time.

“I accept full responsibility for my conduct, and assure everyone that I have learned a very valuable lesson and that this will never occur again,” La Russa said then.

Well, maybe one more time.

He did say that. It is clear that sports figures legal transgressions get more examination under the spotlight then regular people. They also usually get extra punishment because somehow society has decided sports figures must.

Things like domestic violence and murder or some other offenses are usually pretty cut and dried (except OJ). DUI charges I have seen have a very very wide possibility of circumstances surrounding them. I do not excuse them and I really don't want him as my manager. At this point though no one really knows if he had one more beer and drive into a curb or he was again falling down unable to say the alphabet.

We want instant action but until we know I don't see the point.
