So now reports are saying that charges were dropped in one court, but will be refiled in a different jurisdiction. Ultimately, the DUI charges will not be dropped.

Interesting

Too bad Tony didn't resist arrest. He'd be a hero rather than a drunk name dropper.

I know. Next time, he needs to resist to the point of being murdered. Then he’ll be the only HOFer to have a piece of legislation named after him.

This guy who got caught drunk driving (both times by his own action, not routine pullovers- falling asleep at wheel or hitting something) is really getting railroaded by "the system"!

I love how dan is so passionate during his wine paid ads, even mention how smooth the taste is despite the high ABV, and then turns around and bashes LaRussa

Dan thinks he's complicated, wise, and nuanced. He's not. He's a high IQ simpleton with great communication skills.

If you drink and you drive, there's a very high probability you've driven drunk. Maybe we should just reinstate Prohibition. We don't need alcohol. Maybe outlaw motor vehicles while we're at it. Save the planet and eliminate drunk driving.

OR people can maybe limit their intake when driving (it's possible, I did it Saturday) and in the case they have a little too much maybe use one of the super convenient ways to get home and not drive drunk.

Of course, when you're a hall of fame baseball person, you expect rules are different.

Maybe you've noticed, but rules in society today ain't what they used to be. Seems everybody thinks they are a HOF person.

The limits we've placed on intake preclude splitting a bottle of wine at dinner unless you're the size of Andre the Giant. And LaRussa blew just over the limit. It's not as if he's an arch criminal like me who drove Furious Styles and sini home in a near fugue state after McNuggets 60.

Im not sure about wine but you can have 4-5 beers with a little food and not reach .08. Im not a huge guy either.

I have a buddy who had to have a breathalyzer in his car and had a spare one so we've tested this out.

And you could have killed yourself or someone else JORR but you didnt. Ive done dumb stuff too so no judgment but what you did was a dumb thing.

I mean what is the argument here? Drunk driving should be ok? No one is trying to expel LaRussa from society.

I never thought it would be a bold stance to say "Drunk driving is bad"

You'll have to ask one of those guys. I don't remember a thing. I haven't driven drunk since then either. It scared the shit out of me when my partner told me we went to Rivers Casino and I had zero recollection of that. Furious had me drop him at a pizza place on Cumberland. About the last thing I remember was me insisting I'd wait and take him all the way home. He declined. I figure he had sobered up enough himself by that time that he didn't even want to ride two more blocks with me.

You sure about that? Over what time period? What kind of beer?

Miller lite, a few hours.

Like 5 beers and some nachos over the period of an nba game.

It seemed like it was difficult to get over .06 but once you pass that, its quicker.

I’ve had a DUI. I’m not acting holier than though or trying to be a hypocrite at all.

With that being said, the Sox have handled all this terribly.

I don't think it's as simple as that. I'm not going to say that drunk driving was ever considered good, but I'm certainly old enough to remember when it wasn't viewed as a capital crime the way it is now. And yeah, there's no good reason not to grab an Uber from downtown to my house, but what about people who live way out in the middle of nowhere and go to the local bar in Jerseyville or DeSoto? Do you think it's reasonable that they don't drive home? Should we close that guy's bar?

Yeah, because LaRussa is an 80 year old assbag who never should have been hired.

Yes, I think it's reasonable that people not drive trashed under any circumstances.

Uber, lyft, designated driver, walk, ride a bike even.

I had drunk driving affect someone pretty close to me at a young age, so Im probably not the guy to ask, in all honesty.

He wasn’t pulled over. But I get you’re being sarcastic.

Okay. Shouldn't the cops have assisted a guy who had an accident with the curb rather than treating him with suspicion? Why did they treat him with suspicion? Would they have treated an obviously white man that way? I bet they thought LaRussa was Mexican. Probably thought he was illegal.

The people at Soxtalk had Goose Island as one of the White Sox sponsors to contact to complain about La Russa.

They probably want to sign him as an ad man.

When someone truly has a problem with alcohol, calling for a ride isn’t generally an option they ever consider. Especially if you’re around .09. I’m not excusing it, but I’d be willing to bet TLR has never called a ride sharing service. Ever.

also, he didn't blow an .09. He had his blood drawn and it showed .09.

Blood drawn gives you a couple of extra hours to sober up from the point of the arrest. He didn't fall asleep at a stop light with only .09 in his system.

I don't even care any more. He's the coach. I hope the best for him and the team. He could be caught sacrificing puppies and I'd be fine with the hire if he gets us multiple WS. Yeah, that's right, MULTIPLE.

That's the thing. Nobody drives drunk thinking they're going to kill somebody or get in an accident. At least not most people. Of course, LaRussa can afford a car service. But it's a little different for the guy making $13 an hour who cuts loose on a Friday night and now he's supposed to pay $50 for an Uber.
