I addressed it in another thread but it is so bold that it needs its own thread

Hire Theo as team president to get this organizational structure re set. Give him power over everything, including the ability to launch any Halas/Mc Caskeys he finds sleeping in their offices (they are still owners, just not employees). Let him handle all the big picture items, restructuring all the departments as necessary. DO NOT GIVE HIM A CHECKBOOK TO MAKE ANY FIELD EMPLOYEE DECISIONS.

Let him hire a GM. I feel really confident that he would put in the necessary time to find some great executive. Empower that GM to handle all the Bears field employee decisions.

I really think this is the kind of new challenge a guy like Theo would be willing to undertake. I also think he is at his best when reorganizing to create an avenue to acquire the best players, not in actually acquiring specific players.

Theo or about any modern smart executive could do the McDonough cross sports and get it done thing. Sweaty Teddy isn't a football guy.

That would be way too much of a culture shock to the current owners. I'm not sure they want to hear what's really wrong with their organization.

Can it be worse than running to Ernie Accorsi?

The Bears should hire Ernie Accorsi to debate Pace before he makes any roster move.

He's not even a decision making executive. He is an accountant who has somehow risen in the ranks of this organization despite either fucking up or punting on every major initiative with which he has been entrusted. I think the McCaskeys believe he did a really good job for them with the "new" stadium. No one else thinks that.

You are right. Why the fuck not.

Go grab an elite exec from outside your sport. Fuck it. Give Theo 5 years and there’s no way it could be worse than this post-Lovie era.

Lovie is lookin like Lombardi for christsakes

as I said, he is at his best restructuring organizations. People with that talent successfully cross industries all the time.

and again, as I said, he is not being hired to to draft players. He is being hired to find the guy who will draft players.

As long as the checks for the season tickets keep rolling in, I'm not sure they care.

I know George. I've had the opportunity to talk to him on several occasions. He's very interested in what he doesn't know. He doesn't mind criticism.

So who in the McCaskey family can correctly identify the right guy to fix this? It's not George or Ernie Accorsi.

If George has been talking to CoF then we know the root of the Bears problems

Bears are very much a mom and pop organization, if you look at the media guide you see tons of McCaskey family members running all aspects of the organization. If you bring in someone like McDonough, who supposedly drove Hawks staff members crazy with his micromanaging, he likely finds all kinds of avenues for improvement and would piss off family members that have enjoyed guaranteed cradle to grave employment.

George seems to be taken in by the used car salesman PJ Fleck "row the boat" and Nagy "Be You" bs artists who have been able to sell the Bears "braintrust" that they are smarter than the rest of the league. The last two GM's have been absolute disasters who draft based on combine numbers rather than actual production.

The last 3....you include Jerry Angelo in that categorization, as well.

The common theme here is who hired / recommended these GM's. Was Ernie Accorsi consulting on all 3? I know he was involved in the last 2. Maybe Ernie isn't as smart as the McCaskey's think he is.

Why not back up the truck to bring Ozzie Newsome out of retirement and have him fill the front office with hungry kids?

That would be great, unfortunately ownership is inept and that's a pipe dream. I expect a search firm to narrow it down and these dipshits to pick a yesman who pretends to respect them.

I like the Theo idea but I am thinking that Mrs. Theo is so done with Chicago.

That would be great. More likely they bring in Cap Boso though thinking if an ex brown tight en can do it why not keep it in the family with an ex bear one. Consider it a win they aren’t looking at Ryan Wetnight.

Bump.

Hub must read the board: In today's postgame show, he was arguing that the Bears should hire Theo as their Football Czar.

I'm on board. Why the hell not at this point?

HAHAHA YES! I heard the same thing from Hub today. First thing I thought of was dolphin's post! And remember dolphin got shit on for this as worst thought on the board.
