The thing I don't get it is everyone was happy with Pace in 2018 now we're unhappy in 2020 with the guys who hired Pace. Seems arbitrary

Especially considering they used that offseason to hire Marc Trestman, do you think they should have fired Lovie after that season?

3 playoff appearances in 9 years , the last year they were 7-1 and missed the playoffs . Missed the playoffs 4 of his last 5 seasons . Never could fix the offense. He certainly want an automatic “gotta keep this guy” .

Only because Cutler got hurt

Edit--my bad, I think that was the year they went 8-8 after being 7-3

League adjusted to Pace after 18. He hasn't figured out how to respond.

I doubt you would find many Bears fans who are happy with Pace or the guys responsible with hiring Pace.

2018 was the exception not the rule.

Yes.. Launching Lovie was the right move. Hiring Trestman over Arians was dumb AF.

Post game Hub got asked "could you explain your love affair Hub with Ted Phillips?. The caller didn't get cut off, and was civil. Hub calmly explains he didn't think Phillips has any say in football decisions. Though he is in the room on big decisions. I think Phillips rubs people the wrong way for that reason. So he's involved or he isn't? Hub said Phillips has made the McCaskeys millions. Mannelly chimes in all teams have thrived during this period. Hub irritates people for not jumping on the fire Ted bandwagon. Interesting Hub said Phillips was a key player in firing him from his WGN Bears gig.

Lovie Smith? He’s really proven himself in the years since. If he has a line full of pro bowlers his Tampa 2 defense works well. What an innovator. He choked on the biggest stage when spotted a 7-0 lead. He fired Riveria and the defense regressed. It was time to move on. The game clearly passed him by.

I would have given Lovie and that gang one last year and let someone else hire Trestman that offseason. Yeah, the game was passing him by, but it never got to Trestman in the first place.

Lovie needed to go. It wasn't working any more. The league had caught up to his defense.

He is however the second best Bears coach in the modern era. That's kind of like saying that Cutler is the second best Bears qb in the modern era. The competition from the third best isn't exactly an impressive victory.

Hiring Trestman makes Lovie look better, but Trestman did improve the offense. The defense collapsed because it was old and worn down by years of attrition. Lovie probably deserved another year, but if his record since leaving is an indication it wouldn’t have ended well.

He certainly wasn’t fired because he’s black which is what Forte was insinuating .

the Bears punted the football to Lions with 4:33 left in the fourth quarter and a 30-20 lead, they had a 99.1 percent chance of winning the game.

Why switch an All-Pro returner with another wide receiver on the hands team? Why was that necessary, especially if you didn’t trust the new returner to, you know, return the ball?

- Mooney has return ability, but you instructed him to slide back near his own end zone? The game is far from over and now if you have to punt, you just gave the Lions good field position.

He looked like a serviceable QB yesterday. A running game will do that for you.

Whatever Nagy, and Doug Pedersen are running these days, the league has figured them out apparently.

At least Belichik/McDaniel will try and run a system that fits their QB.

Nagy keeps pounding square pegs into round holes.

Pedersen has Wentz going from future star, to on the street in under two years.

The killer play was that holding penalty on Leno on 2nd and 1 at the Lions 37. If they pick up that first down, I think the game is over.

The Lions just fired their head coach a week ago and were so injury plagued that they were using an offensive lineman to play defense.

Mitch somehow managed to overcome all odds by performing well--though not spectacularly--against that train wreck of a team.

What an accomplishment!

Imagine how well he would do with an actual head coach and coordinator.

They were 10-6 and 3rd in points against. Age caught up with the defense as Tillman, Peppers, Briggs, and Urlacher were all 31+. To shore up the aging D they wasted their first round pick on Shea.
