I knew he should have been the starter. Said it after Foles came back vs. Atlanta. A lot of you guys gave me shit. Said I was crazy.

No, he's not great. I know. But we would be in the playoffs if he started every damn game. Now I hear media people saying the same damn thing when none of them said it at the time.

Here's another one for you. We should bring him back next year.

1. There are no better options.

2. He's still young and getting better.

3. He's an unrestricted free agent. Meaning the Bears can match any offer. So he's gonna be relatively cheap. Cuz nobody will give him a monster contract.

4. He was the number 2 pick. Why give up on him now when you have nothing else? Why? Makes no sense.

5. He still might not be the guy, but then move on after next year when you might have better options.

Most people who know the NFL knew Mitch was the better QB. If you combined the best of Nick Foles and Mitch you would just have Mitch. Not really worthy of a victory lap thread

Mitch is better than Foles. Who cares. Neither is the answer. If Mitch was Qb the whole time the record is about the same. Lose the ATL game, maybe win one of the others.

I am gonna take a victory lap. Contrary to what you say, I was literally the only one saying Mitch was better after the Atlanta game. That he should get his job back. Stupid fans and stupid media were against me.

Furthermore, my argument was also to play the damn younger guy to see if he can get better. Instead of the older guy.

He was the damn 2nd overall pick. You gotta see if he's good. It was a stupid decision.

Once again, bring Mitch back. Match the offer that he'll get.

You weren’t the only one. I’ve consistently said Mitch is better and I believe Rick has too.

He does an outstanding job of hitting the first read on a 5 yd flare pass and letting his teammates rack up the yac. On a completely unrelated note, why do he and Wentz stand in the shotgun like they are riding a horse? I don't really see anyone else do it, it looks weird and they both are kind of terrible at playing qb right now.

I think Foles is better but....and its a big but...he has to have a line in front of him. Mitch is more productive with a shitty line because he is too dumb to go through progressions and thus gets the ball out much quicker.

Mitch sucks, he's beaten the weakest teams on our schedule.

You thought Foles was better. Mitch has been better than Foles in every single way a QB can be better than another QB this year.

And neither a particularly accurate but Foles is more accurate than Mitch. I will take the more accurate shitty QB over an inaccurate shitty QB.

Foles is not more accurate than Mitch. That was made abundantly clear this year.

Give him a few shots at the target he will eventually hit it. Sure he air mails or bounces his first throw but he gets it eventually.

Correct. It's just not true. People just like to say it. People also like to say Foles has the stronger arm. That's not true either.

I saw Mitch fail to get it to the endzone on a hail mary from 50 yards out..he also took 3 or 4 steps into the throw.

Foles' streaks of success prior to this year were more impressive than mitch's. That says more about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky than foles since foles utterly failed in LA and Jacksonville while mitch was supposed to be franchise. He decidedly is not. While foles wasn't my first choice - I didn't want him at all, I wanted Winston or Newton - I did think he was better than mitch. I was and still am done with mitch. Foles didn't really prove he's better than mitch like many other observers thought he was (this is where ff is wrong even though his personal opinion is right) so I've conceded that mitch is probably incrementally better but both decidedly suck anyway.

Where im not wrong though, and I know you know this, is that mitch sucks. I've said that for about 1.5 to 2 years now. That's why opinions like beardown's are so laughable because it's like he's forgotten that we already saw mitch try and we've seen him fail. The verdict is in. Only meatballs get sucked into random displays of competency from proven sucky players like mitch and think, jim carey dumb and dumber style, that there's "still a chance."

I always have to repeat that I don't think Mitch is great. But I didn't like the move to Foles. I think Mitch is getting better. And the only reason I say bring him back is because there are no better options.

It's a low percentage that he will ever be great. But there's a chance. And you invested so much in him, why the hell would you give up on him now? Give him one more year and then move on if he sucks.

That's all I'm saying.

The price you pay for something has no bearing on its usefulness. Per your logic, you'd be fine with getting rid of Mitch if he was on a non guaranteed contract for the league minimum. But because we invested multiple picks in him, you want to keep him around regardless of performance. That doesn't make sense. Cut your losses before they multiply.

Beardown wrote:

You do realize he's been on the Bears for four years, right? How long are you going to give one player to develop? This isn't a multi year training program for one player. The more you wait on him the more you waste your chances to ride other talent on the roster to the playoffs, a place you can't get to because you're waiting for your QB to become something he's not. You're shockingly myopic on this point.

"If"?

If he doesn't suck, then what is he? Good?

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is alright, with the potential to get better. It wouldn't shock me at all if he pulls a Tannehill or Alex Smith and ends up a good but not great quarterback for a while longer after he moves on. If I set the over/under on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky starts at 12 for the rest of his career after this year would you take the under?

I can even see an argument, if you fire Nagy, of using the franchise tag on him to get one more year with a new coach to see if he can turn him into that. It may not work with the salary cap though.

I've said he's an elite backup at best so I can meet you at Alex Smith maybe as a ceiling but not Tannehill. I think the ship has sailed for him in Chicago. Let him figure it out - if he does - somewhere else. I think it's a fireable offense to bring him back next year as a contender for the starting role, even if he cost nothing.

Smith and Tannehill are better than elite backups.

The only way I bring him back is if a new coach says "I think I can fix him. Give me a year". I doubt that would happen. The new guy probably wants a rookie qb.

It's going to really suck if the Patriots do think (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is good enough to sign though. What if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is Tom Brady but mobile?

If people today can still argue that Donald Trump won the election by millions of votes then I can still argue that (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is Tom Brady but mobile.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is Tom Brady if you throw out the illegal bad games he's had.

Foles is more accurate. He is still bad though. Why don’t you go back and watch the Green Bay game the last Bears game against a decent team. The announcers were blaming the wind for Mitch’s inaccuracy. Don’t be fooled by Mitch’s play against Detroit and the Texans.

Career completion percentage:
Foles: 62.4
(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky: 63.4

2020 completion percentage:
Foles: 65
(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky: 63.8

Also, before we act like Foles was throwing it much further down the field, they have virtually identical career y/a numbers and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is 6.8 this year and Foles was 6.0.
