I think Denison is actually almost as expensive, at least the list price.

Dan never pays list price. Just kidding.

Given her father's elitist leanings, I was surprised by the Denison choice as well, but I've been told by some on this board that it's a good school.

It is a good school. I heard its a beautiful campus as well. Still, with cost not being a factor and acceptance assured, I don't think there are many who would make that choice.

Did he say she was accepted at Cornell and Duke? It's not a slam dunk these days, even for top grades/tests and legacy connections.

Bernstein has hinted at his family being Thornton Mellon level patrons at Cornell through multiple generations and how disappointed they were he didn't follow. He has enough juice to get a kid into Duke.

It's all those times he told the same story about Coach K being mean to a student reporter in the 1980s.

Do you think if Holmes announced he was refusing to work tomorrow over the Kenosha shooting Dan would follow suit in support?

The downfall of the dolphin aura has been rapid. I continue to be stunned.
You've now stooped to the level of judging, academically, where someone else's kid is going to college. I know it happens elsewhere, but I never got it. It's judging for no other reason than simply judging.

90% of the "academic superiority" of a given college only matters for exactly one day ever - acceptance day. After that, where the undergraduate degree comes from doesn't matter. There are a few majors where it matters, but not many.
Take Dan's field for instance. His Duke education has gotten lapped many times over by a Ball St grad...maybe two of them. Not to mention a hot dog slinger.
Dan's parents wasted that Duke tuition. But at least they got to brag to their friends that sent their kids to (lowly midwest public U).

You could extend that even further to JC's...a student gets a JC degree, then moves on to finish their undergrad at...pick a school...does that undergrad degree then appear less desirable to a potential employer? Of course not, in most cases.

Good point. Of course he wouldn't.

Furthermore, what if Heyward doesn't want to play the next game. Or the game after that. Or the game after that. So the Cubs players have to miss 3 or 4 games in a row.

What if Heyward doesn't want to play the rest of the year. "Would Bernstein say the Cubs should forfeit the season to support their teammate?"

You mean like what LeBron and the Clippers are doing with the entire NBA?

I don't believe for one second that he has the juice to get his kid into Duke.

Cornell is different, and that's not his juice either.

He's an alum, so his kids already would get the specialized review. I won't assume he is a donative alum but if he is the thumb gets pressed on the scale further. I have to imagine he has had his eye on entry for his kids since their conception and has kept some contact with the school. Seth Davis seems to like him enough. Can a well placed call from him do the job?

He is also on the radio and has shit on coach K and Duke basketball multiple times. If he was actually recognizable enough of a person to get his kid into Duke, someone would know that to.

Dan has money and friends but nowhere near enough. His dad’s juice doesn’t flow to NC.

Dan Bernstein's daughter is going to college?

I qualified for Medicare last week and now this.

I remember Murph trying to get Dan (who was a produce or update guy) a date (I think it turned out to be his future wife).

Dan would like to remind you, for some reason, that Tony LaRussa supported Arizona SB1070.... over 10 years ago.
Because.... ???

If Biden wins tonight:

I don’t think Bernstein was on double secret probation when he made his comment though. He may be now which is why he’s toned it down. Again, I don’t think Mac should’ve been fired for that remark but he’s certainly been in trouble with management in the past and may have been warned that he had one last strike.

That's fair but I think a fair counterpoint is that Bernstein's comment was significantly worse.

It was and he was suspended. That's a reasonable punishment for a (presumably) 1st time offense.

Dan wasn't suspended for tweeting "boobs." His punishment was that he had to apologize and that the Score hired Julie DiCaro shortly after -- you may feel this was worse than a suspension. What Dan was suspended for was tweeting that the Blackhawks celebrated winning the Stanley Cup by running a train on a popular channel 7 meteorologist, and not Jerry Taft. The Score had a Chicago-team-just-won-its-championship day and their afternoon host wasn't there.
