It's one of the few things that shouldn't differ that much from location to location. Some of these mini chains all source their own bread, though, which makes a huge difference.

It's been so long I wouldn't be able to pinpoint what bothered me most about Buona. I traditionally just go to Johnnie's now for all my italian beef needs, but I recall the 'average' Portillo's italian beef being better than the Buona italian beefs I had from Streamwood, Itasca, and Naperville.

Johnnie's is the only place I will get a combo. They char the sausage over wood embers. It's overpowering by itself, but adds good smokiness with the beef.

Johnnie's is great for combos. So is the original Al's on Taylor St. What, you're too good for that place?

That Taylor street Al's was a dumpster fire last time I ate there. Everybody working there was high, and the beef tasted like cinnamon.

8 oz Strip steak from Whole Foods fried up to medium on the electric stovetop, mix of frozen veggies (cauliflower, corn, peas, carrots) left over in the freezer microwaved with some olive oil and penzey's spices, and brown rice with some TJs hatch chili salsa added.

I only worked about four hours today. Most of my colleagues and all of my clients took the full week off.

Strange. I've never had a bad meal there, though I haven't been that way in a couple years. It's definitely overpriced.

Used Buona to cater a lunch recently. It was better than expected. Their chicken parm sammich was really good. Good hot giardiniera.

About 15 degrees warmer than usual in NC, and it's the Friday before a week where most senior staff are going to be at a conference and thus are now clearing their desks.

So I bolted out the two hours to the ocean (Wrightsville Beach) for firecracker shrimp and locally brewed lager for a late lunch. Off to find a Starbucks to crank out a few emails on my laptop that were too hard to do on the phone, and then a leisurely drive home in time to pick up a steak to panfry for dinner and tomorrow's breakfast.

Chinese from my favorite local takeout spot. Business is hurting from sheer stupid panic.

I was in a small town and had finished golf and was fucking starving at 3pm, so I let myself waste $9 on Wendy's. Even more disappointing than I thought it would be.

I find that to be the case with more and more places now, which blows since encroaching age has me cooking less and less.

I have leftover Costco chicken in the refrigerator for tonight, so the day isn't a total loss.

Because I hate myself I got the 2 new wing flavors from BWW yesterday. The Orange Chicken flavor was excellent, although since Asian Zing is what I usually get I figured I'd like it. The Pizza flavored wings were so damn weird. The pizza flavoring actually tasted good and enough like pizza that I was impressed, unfortunately it just didn't taste very good on the chicken wing.

I can see why they would try it. Pizza and wings is a great combo.

Didn't have much breakfast so I stopped on the way home from the store and got a half pound hamburger with steak sauce and grilled onions from the regional chain Cook Out. Not nearly as good as what I can find in Chicago, but it will do.

I see those in Tennessee when I am back home, but hadn't had one. Gonna be down there for a week, may have to give it a try.

Late lunch(Or rather early bird dinner) pasta with chicken and shrimp in a garlicky cream sauce. Enough for today and tomorrow unless my son crushes what I can't eat today.

 Yeah, a plan to count on something else tomorrow. Maybe I'll make it an all breakfast day.

Better that the three big national chains, not as good as Portillo's unless you like thin parties in which case their Big Double is pretty good. Plus they have hush puppies and an awesome Orangesickle soft serve milk shake which I am depriving myself of until I lose another 5 pounds.
