you know it's gonna be a good weekend when you wake to find out that your favorite musician released a surprise bluegrass album overnight. Mostly re-dos of existing songs now in bluegrass format, but also some new tracks as well.

I've been spinning Bruce Springsteen's new one. Meh. It sounds like an E-Street Band album, which is good, but it doesn't even live up to his 2007 release (Magic), let alone anything from the halcyon period.

I thought it was pretty good, but I was disappointed that the old songs that never made the first album didn't have that rat-a-tat feel to them that "Blinded by the Light" and "It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City" had. They were as plodding as anything else after The River. Good, not great. I liked Magic a lot when it came out too. I can't believe that was 13 years ago.

Magic is a highly underrated album. I like it better than The Rising or anything else he's done this century. I honestly don't know what I was expecting with Letter to You. It's a lot to ask of someone to be creatively vibrant into their 70's.

I dont like a lot of Bruces shit but the Rising is a decent effort. Plus the song he did for Philadelphia is perfect

FEAR with John Belushi

"NEIGHBORS"

Belushi brought them in to record the final credits song to the movie NEIGHBORS. The song wasn't used and didn't get released until 2015.

This led to an infamous appearance on SNL.

The new Avalanches album - We Will Always Love You - is a straight up masterpiece

Normally having a 25 track, 72 minute album with like 50 guests is a sure recipe for disaster , but they pull it off here

I think I'm going to start listening to Christmas music on XM tomorrow. 10 days out is a good amount. They usually have three or four stations for it, traditional, pop, R&B, and maybe gospel or country. I'm usually good for 5-6 songs a day of the pop and 2-3 of the R&B. Then traditional for driving to my cousins' house on Christmas Day, which I won't be doing this year.

That Drones song "Shark Fin Blues" is supposed to be the greatest Australian rock song ever written. I don't know about that when the Saints exist, but it is pretty emotional.

"Streets Of Your Town" or "Under The Milky Way" for me, I'm basic like that.

Listening to this '90s power-pop band out of the NW burbs that I'm just getting around to now. I'm sure they got play on WCBR. The singer sounds just like Jim Ellison at times, but I checked and it's not Jim Ellison. Whole thing feels like a cross between Material Issue and Jellyfish: Jelly-Ish?

The Go-Betweens are pretty great. I loved the Reivers and I would bet a lot of money they were sitting around Austin in the early 80s listening to Go-Betweens records. The Church are really not my thing. To me "(I'm) Stranded" is the greatest Australian song and there's nothing really close.

Oh, the Church is really just U2 Expanded Coverage, but there were worse things a band could be in the '80s than that.

"I'm Stranded" is pretty good, but I don't think I really go for much garage rock.

Always grouped McClusky with those mid-2K's Aussie rockers, but turns out they aren't or weren't Aussie. McClusky's from Wales, which given their cheeky lyrics fits

That reminds me, and how could I have forgotten? This is the best Australian rock song.

"Hard to Be a Saint in the City" absolutely kills on that one.
