Didn't have much breakfast so I stopped on the way home from the store and got a half pound hamburger with steak sauce and grilled onions from the regional chain Cook Out. Not nearly as good as what I can find in Chicago, but it will do.

I see those in Tennessee when I am back home, but hadn't had one. Gonna be down there for a week, may have to give it a try.

Better that the three big national chains, not as good as Portillo's unless you like thin parties in which case their Big Double is pretty good. Plus they have hush puppies and an awesome Orangesickle soft serve milk shake which I am depriving myself of until I lose another 5 pounds.

Hush puppies, the most underrated food going.

Even mediocre chain hush puppies are good. Real southern hush puppies are insane.

I put together a catered lunch from Wishbone for this Wednesday. The office seemed to be pleased with the choice.

We tried doing carry out from Hole in the Wall for our holiday party, but the dummy who we spoke to on Friday failed to mention they were closed all week this week.

So now it looks like we are ordering from De Pescera. I'm not much of a fan of that place.

I had bought a bunch of delivery when I was quarantined last week waiting to prove that my upper respiratory infection wasn't covid, and froze the leftovers. Lunch today was about 1/3 of an order of PF Chang's chicken with chili sauce and rice.

My goal is to empty the freezer by the end of New Year's weekend. The frozen leftovers are step 1, the vegetables are after that. Only the raw meat and seafood and the Stouffer's Mac and Cheese will remain.

Don't think I've ever had that one. I'm not much into Athenian or Vesuvio chicken. More like a lamb in red sauce guy.

The second greatest thing the Greeks did after creating civilization was serving rice AND potatoes with every dish.

In college (@ an HBCU) meals were small. But there was rice and potatoes with every meal. Grits swapped out for rice at breakfast. I was just in a Facebook exchange with long ago classmates where we were laughing at the crap we are to supplement them. Rice and potatoes now gives me the hives.

My wife rarely allows what she calls "double starching" at our table. She can't stop me at Psistaria though!

Do you like your grits regular, creamy, or al dente?

Creaamy, with salt and butter. I'm no sugar in the grits heathen!

The food was good but not as great as I thought it would be.

I just don't think you catering works well for upscale items.

hmm...i have never been to Nando's

But now i will ! Thanks

This place is right near my work in Bolingbrook. I know they're probably more known for bone-in chicken, but the tenders are awesome. It's nice to be addicted to something that's actually healthy

Made a quick run to the Jewel's to pick up weekend stuff before the big crowds hit. It was packed with the olds already, and then I realized that I did the old guy thing buying a prepared shrimp cocktail. Fortunately they were well cooked and came with lemon and spicy cocktail sauce.

Perfect for an old who doesn't mind horseradish.

Who minds horseradish? If its not too much it gives a nice flavor, if it is too much it gives more of a good flavor and clears out the sinuses.. Win win.
