He's the only straight guy who still sports the pencil mustache. How can we trust this guy to hire the next GM?

Anybody else envision Hallas Hall like Burns Manor, with C. Montgomery wandering around mumbling about hiring Don Coryell?

Nope, just me.

As I keep harkening back to, its an indictment of McCaskey genetics that not one person, in what is going on 4 generations since Halas, has had the combination of interest and intelligence to learn both business and the game of football.

Can you imagine growing up as a Mc Caskey and aspiring to learn the ticket management end of the game?

For fucks sake, I wish just one son would be born who wants to play football through high school, go to a great business school while working for the football team, learn some scouting, maybe go to law school while working as an assistant gm and then take over the mf multi billion dollar family business

They should have been embarrassed that the children of George Stanley Halas had to hire Ernie Acorsi to find a GM. It should have sobered them to the point that they realize at least one if not multiple heirs need to be groomed to be something other than stiffs in pr.

Rocking a mustache in the current day is a power move. Don't hate.

WOW!, Thanks Frank. I'm taking it as a compliment that anyone would even imagine I was smart enough to develop a mult. Unfortunately, I am not capable of something that complex- I'm way too simple. I haven't seen enough of JGWP's posts to know if that was meant as a compliment or not, but I'll assume not.

Glad to hear you're back to work AND hitting the Penske File already!! Merry Christmas to you and yours.

And you can tell by the resulting hires (Pace and Fox) that the directive was not to build a champion, but rather to avoid further humiliating the franchise.

I think they thought they had something with Pace, but John Fox was clearly just there to mind the store for a few years.

Ryan Pace has made some very very poor decisions but I think if you look back at the roster before he got here things have gotten better. Phil Emery was as bad as it gets. There was zero talent anywhere. Pace fucked up bad with the QB’s but a lot of teams do. The defense is pretty good and bordered on great a few years ago. I wouldn’t be upset if he had one more shot to get the qb right only because the Bears can and probably will do worse with the next hire.

It really is amazing that none of them really got into football like you say.

Here's my question, are the great grandsons of George getting into football? I assume they're in their 30s by now. If not older. Just curious about what they're doing. Cuz those great grand sons will be in charge soon.

I never hear anything about them. Just wondering what they're up to.

This is Ed McCaskey Jr. He looks like Alfred E. Newman.

Pace is a very good scout (cue the Mitch jokes but it’s true) but a bad GM.

I will allow him to scout and draft anything but qb. I think he has actually done decent everywhere else. I think just about everyone but Ozzie Newsome has failed without getting the qb right. He needs to defer on the qb pick. Just not sure who he needs to defer to.

Bears are the ultimate mom and pop business, if you look through the media guide you will see all kinds of family members employed surrounded by what are likely long time sycophants. Remember reading years ago that the team leaves millions on the table each year in potential revenue due to outdated business practices, but who is going to tell the boss no when he is a member of the family?

As for Pace, the most damning evidence against him is in the self scouting department. He overpays for mediocre at best performance, especially on the O line where he locked up Leno who is one of the worst starting LT's in football. There is also the glaring inability to scout QB, OL, and TE which has forced the team to waste cap space and draft capital to address draft failures.

Don't NFL teams make an annual profit off TV money alone? If you're one of the 10,000 McCaskeylings crawling around Chicago, why rock the boat? Why risk failure? Just take your position as Vice-President Of Luxury Dessert Relations, don't screw up, and let the money roll in. You're not going to inherit the team anyway.
