I, too, laughed heartily at the return the Cubs got for one of the best pitchers in the NL over the last 18 months.

It is a good laugh. Almost as funny as LaRussa's BAC higher than Moncada's batting average.

Lashing out at Sox fans isn't gonna help with that realization the Cubs aren't going to be good again until 2027.

it's over bob. it was a good run. we got a championship after 108 years. no need to fight the good fight any longer.

we're not going to be good for another 5-10 years considering who is running the team now.

you did a commendable job defending cubdom these last 7 years. Now we need to let it go.

2027 is pretty optimistic given their inability to develop pitchers.

Yeah, that home grown pitching talent sure fueled the Cub's WS run in 2016.

At this point, there isn't an actual year that you can point to as a planned year for the Cubs to contend.

Could it be 2027? Maybe, but it's just as likely to be 2037.

The Cubs and Astros were really the first two teams to fully embrace the full scale tank-job. So they didn't have much competition using that model, now 1/2 of the league is actively trying to win as few games as possible, it's a much more crowded freeway at this point.

Yu had a great year and a half.

He is also old. And the money is crazy high.

I don't like the trade either but don't expect 2 more years of Yu being great.

What does 2 more years of Yu being great have to do with this trade?

You think that was the leverage used against Hoyer?

If so, then don’t make the fucking trade.

Find proven prospects somewhere else.

Don’t sugarcoat this man.

This trade is fucking embarrassing.

No one is sad Yu is gone.

People are pissed off about the return.

It's likely that they are trying to repeat a 10 year cycle but not suck so totally at the beginning. A swarm of prospects hitting Iowa in 2023, some get called up and duplicates get traded for veterans. Expect to see college hitters drafted in 2021 and 2022 in the first round.

I take no joy in seeing the Cubs' decline. Rivalry is the best when both teams are good and the city deserves consistently good baseball, no matter what side of town it comes from.

I thought they could get Campusano and Davies plus one A ball pitcher. Or Abrams and Myers.

The Cubs can go fuck themselves and be terrible for eternity for all I care but this is how I view the Bears/Packers so I understand where you're coming from certainly.

Yes. People are pissed off about the return. Given Yu's overall performance, age, contract what were they expecting to get for him ?

I've been told he was really good this year. Maybe don't act like the Marlins and keep a really good player if the best you can get for him is a bag of peanuts even if it costs you a few bucks. I don't think that expectation is too high for big city teams not owned by the cheap fucking asshole who needs to die soon known as Uncle Jerry

One top 10 Padres prospect seems reasonable

But teams are holding onto their prospects more than ever in baseball so it's not that surprising

I was listening to Evan Altman critiquing the trade on the Score. He ripped it. Calling Davis a "soft tosser". Wasn't Mark Buehrle a soft tosser? Bernstein also condemns pitchers as trash if they don't hit a certain Craig Kimbrel velocity. And he ridiculed the prospects as 4 teenagers. Wasn't Tatis an unranked Sox prospect who was traded for James "Big Game" Shields?
