Hey all. Got a question for those who are real estate savvy.

I have a friend with a family (wife/2 girls) looking for a place to rent in the Madison, WI area. Lease with purchase options if possible. So far their search has not yielded very many places...maybe they can't find what they're looking for but just wanted to throw something out there if it's possible to find something decent.

Does anyone here know of anyplace (townhouse, duplex, etc.) that's like 3 bedroom/2 bath or so, that's available?

Or if you know of where to go?

Thanks!

I know someone selling in Janesville, but that's about an hour or so outside Madison so that won't help.

Because it's a college town, my guess is those types are already rented for the year. They may need to look outside town.

Have you looked at the barn market? There may be much more available in the silo/hay loft/windmill category than actual human housing. That's what I would recommend.

W_Z, a girl I work with has a brother who was leasing / renting up there but he just moved back. Here's his response to my inquiry:

I was renting from a place called ridgewood trails, http://www.bmcmadison.com I found several places through rent.com, apartments.com and madison.craigslist.com

Unfortunately my place is too small for them.

They need to find a good real estate agent that knows that market. While it is my understanding that the Madison real estate market has not suffered as badly as other parts of the country, a good agent should be able to find them suitable properties and present the lease w/ option to buy idea to sellers. Ideal candidates might be sellers whose mortgages are paid (i.e. seniors) who have been unable to find buyers.

Watch out for those pesky pregnant virgins, though.

If they are lucky, it was Mt. Horeb, home of the Mustard Museum.

The Mustard Museum, now that is a place I have to visit before I expire.
