still on the fence re Rolen

That's it for this year for me. I haven't supported Bonds until now because there was a huge backlog of guys like Edgar Martinez who I wanted to see get in.

Right now I think the 60s-70s era veterans committee has work to do. Allen and Parker to start.

Curious why Bonds and not Clemens?

Bonds wasn't washed up before he "rejuvenated".

Wouldn’t pre-roids Clemens still make it in?

I’d put them all in, but I view those two as kind of the vanguard for the steroid era guys.

I believe Clemens started juicing in when he was 20.

i dont know about that. he seemed like a juicer when he got older like Bonds.

McGwire though, he juiced when he got into the league.

Unofficial tallies as of yesterday. Real tallies are like 5 percentage points lower than these. Nobody is getting in this year

Schilling has two of the most heroic postseason performances in recent memory, he absolutely has to be in no matter how much he loves Donald Trump.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most of the generational wealth players in major league baseball support Donald Trump. They’re just too afraid to say it. Which should have nothing to do with someone being eligible for the Hall of Fame anyway. Schilling was borderline Hall of Fame before the lower standards for pitchers anyway. The way it is now , he’s definitely deserving .

i agree Schilling should get in. MLB is clueless too about marketing. the NBA/NFL do a great job marketing their retired stars. MLB network should be showing the bloody sock, the 01 series, and everything else Schilling's career was so memorable about.

Scott Rolen a HOF'r? I don't think so. A very good player yes. I'm surprised to see him get so many votes. But I don't think Ted Simmons is a HOF either but what you gonna do. Lot of guys are in there that should not be. So if you're going to do that like the NBA/NFL does, then go all out.

very happy the steroid guys aren't going to get in.

I’m a little confused on Vizquel. Isn’t he essentially Ozzie Smith ? Smith was first ballot , no ?

I can see that argument. However Vizquel may have been a victim of his time. Ozzie was widely thought of as the best SS in the game for several years at a time when small ball was considered a good thing. Omar was played at the same time as Jeter, ARod, Larkin, etc. Was he ever considered the best player at his position during that time?

I think defensively it was no contest that he was.

Absolutely but still, if someone asked who the best SS in the game was during that era the answer was never Vizquel.

There's like 7 guys on that list who should go in. A ballot can be filled with 10 names. Writers are fucking assholes, if you ask me.

I feel the exact opposite (not about the writers). I don’t like the idea of lowering the bar and just because an argument can be made that it happened previously doesn’t mean it should continue. If so then the bar will inevitably continue to get lower and it will devalue the honor of being inducted.

I love that MLB has a high bar, but I count 6 studs. High barred studs. 4 if you're still packing resentment for Clemens and Bonds. It's a travesty if not one of those guys can't reach 75%.

500 homers, even for players after the strike, ought to count.

I think it's also because he played for a slew of teams and three of them were Milwaukee, San Diego, and Florida.

He's below the career WAR and the peak WAR for the average Hall of Fame right fielder. Also, while it's not as bad as Clemens or Bonds, there is somewhat of a steroid buzz around him. All that being said, he might have had the quickest bat speed of any player I've ever seen.

If memory serves, Hawk gave that particular honor to Dayan Viciedo.

Yaz is always deservedly cited as Hawk's number one man crush but, am I crazy, or wouldn't he also obsessively talk about Al Kaline?

Shilling couldn't have kept his mouth shut for another 24 days?

But it should not matter. I don't give a shit what he did off the field. Way worse human beings in the HOF now than Schilling.

They should not be allowed to change their votes. that's bullshit.

anyway nobody is getting in this year. it's a continuous embarassment for baseball when this happens but they're so clueless they don't give a shit.

You can't take your vote back. Schilling hasn't changed.

The possibility that Schilling turns a Cooperstown induction ceremony into a Trump rally is mildly intriguing.
