Probably won't play till 2022 if that is true.

Someone within the organization. We are both hoping it is wrong. Toews is (rightfully) being very protective about that.

Fuck. Fingers crossed that it's just about anything else.

A close friend's mom died from als a couple years ago. Such a horrible disease.

I PMd a local Hawks blogger with pretty deep ties. Mentioned the ALS rumor and he said that wasnt it. He didn't volunteer any other info. Hope he's right, since als is a death sentence.

It is. I think there is hope that it's not...wouldn't he announce retirement immediately if that were the case?

If Toews does have ALS, I can't imagine that Kane's desire to stick it out will last beyond this off season.

Hopefully it’s something like MS, which is debilitating, but not the death sentence ALS is. Could very well be they will hold off on making any announcements as long as possible, as to not to take attention away from the Hawks’ season, crappy as it will be.

I really hope that rumor is wrong, but from the description we have heard along with the fact this was affecting him as far back as the summer, ALS may be it. If this was affecting him during the restart last July/August, then they probably have an idea of what it is.

Toews was not present during the introduction tonight. The injured players were all there in suits on the bench for opening night.

I'm really starting to fear those rumors circling are true

Yeah.. that was concerning in that it lends credence to it being something rather serious.

What do I win? Have read a few things lately on the correlation between concussions and early ALS. I know he has a history. Probably a different thread needed but why wouldn’t a parent with common sense push their kids harder into tennis, golf, swimming or even bass fishing. The possibility of head trauma just isn’t worth it.

It's a hard choice and it would be even harder if you had a kid like Toews that you knew could be successful. He played hard and the brain talks started maybe 5 or so years ago.

actually you guys were ahead of me. First I heard of it was today when a buddy of mine told me. No official source, just lots of talk about ALS from different sources speculating, some more connected than others.

It's just a guess by me.

But I think he had COVID. Didn't know he had COVID when he had it. And then is now feeling the sluggish feeling even after recovering from it. Because Moncada, for the White Sox, said he didn't feel right after he recovered from it all season long.

I think I also had COVID without knowing it. I wake up in the morning not feeling right. Then it gets better throughout the day. Anybody else like this? There's just like a buzzed sluggish feeling when I wake up. Some days worse then others. Been going on for months. Like I said, usually by the afternoon I feel fine.

Age? Drinking the night before? Could be anything.

They get tested everyday. Not sure if they've done antibodies testing or when.

No. It's not that. I feel bad when I don't drink the night before. I'm not that old.

Moncada is in his mid 20s and he said he wasn't feeling right for months after having COVID.

Cuz I've been tested twice in the last 2 months and it came back negative both times. But I think I might of had it long before I got tested and just didn't have bad symptoms. They say that's possible. Not everybody gets symptoms when they get it.

Just a theory on Toews.

Im always a little on the fence about these things. On one hand, the media often intrudes when they shouldnt but they pick funny places to draw the line on what to report on and what not to. On the other hand, how much do the fans deserve to know whats going when a star player isnt playing , doesnt expect to be playing anytime soon, and all they give is "undisclosed illness". Im guessing they know exactly whats wrong with him but is the deliberately vague explanation theyre giving enough ?
