NFL Network draft mock had Bears taking OT Jalen Mayfield out of Michigan.

Found some info on him.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/top-michigan-draft-prospects-2021-nfl-draft/

I’m good with it.

Just wanted to stop in and say.. on my way home I fired up the SCORE and Hub was on the Parkins show. Seems he agrees with you guys that the Bears don’t need to take a QB in the 1st round.

So add that to the reasons why you’re all wrong.

The RAIDERS have what the Bears need when it comes to QBs.

Pony up.

The Packers trade us Rodgers for a 2nd and a couple mid round picks..

Seriously, yeah I’m not surprised a fan that understands what a great QB can do for the team he pulls for would agree.

There’s no point in the Bears playing the ‘windows still open game’ -shits been nailed shut since last year. Tear this thing down and get the QB position solved. Start right damn now and don’t stop until it’s right.

Not a chance. Mariota, yes.

Carr is on a very manageable contract for the next 2 years and really excelled this year in Gruden's offense. Need more than that to take on Mack's bloated salary.

I like the Alabama and Notre Dame QBs. The Bears would be fine with either.

The Alabama QB really has a good arm and touch.

Ian Book is going to be undrafted. My guess is that he will make a team as a third QB and stick around for a while but never see the field.

I don't know about Jones. He just dosen't seem like a first round talent to me.

Jones is an interesting case in that regard. He's clearly not considered among the top 5 QBs yet he has good size & his stats this season were unreal. Not much of a runner and he had 2 great WR's but still...

Mac Jones has been supposedly incredibly impressive at the Senior Bowl

Brugler says what he's seeing down there confirms the tape...there's "no juice" in that arm. Zierlein finished his tape review last week and didn't like his arm either. Both gave 3rd round grades on him but expect him to go earlier.

He's going to be a good NFL QB. Probably never will be great.

Let’s look at past success of the two scouts you’re using in regards to QB’s.. what have their past evaluations been, and how accurate? Why should we hold their evaluations in any regard?

JT O’Sullivan on YouTube likes Jones, and has some decent break downs of him and others. I’m not sure what his track record is tho.

From what I’ve seen personally, Jones can read a defense, he’s accurate, throws a decent deep ball, and can make NFL throws. He’s also got decent size/athleticism combo -not special athletically but he isn’t a statue either. And, he played against the highest level of competition in college coming out of the SEC and a bunch of future NFL defensive players and he was very successful. Yes he played with talent -but so did Lawrence at Clemson, so did Burrow at LSU.. they still had to make the right reads and throws.

I watched about 4 games of his and liked what I saw. I got a similar vibe to the one you seem to have. Only difference is, I do think the possibility to be great is there as well because I think the kid has the cerebral part of being a QB down. He’s very decisive with the ball and seems to understand what a defense is trying to do right after the snap. He makes alot of smart ‘correct’ decisions with the ball.

By "juice" do they mean arm strength? I'll take accuracy and awareness over any other attribute. Montana fell because he lacked arm strength and athleticism.

Brugler is the best of the evaluators and Zierlein is very good too. Brugler is The Athletic's scouting expert and Zierlein is the same with NFL.com. The only other guy on their level is Jeremiah of NFL Network. They like him as a backup or a lower-tier starter but if the Bears want to take him in the 1st round maybe they'll be right and these guys will be wrong. Nobody is right 100% of the time. If I were a Bears fan I wouldn't like using a #1 on a guy with a limited arm.

None of this has anything to do with what I asked you: name the guys they’ve been right about, dead on.

If they’re such great talent evaluators, there should be an endless list of hits on their resume. So who are they, and what were they right about specifically?

Don’t cop out with this nonsense ‘no one is right 100% of the time’. I want to know why I should bother with their opinions based off their past correct evaluations. You should too for that matter.

Let's be real. If they were great evaluators they would have front office jobs, not working at places like The Athletic. I'm not discounting them too heavily but the guys I trust like Mac Jones and I'm inclined to agree. A 3rd round grade seems ridiciulous to me but most QBs are busts so I guess more often than not you'll be covered saying a prospect will disappoint

I’m with you. I don’t want to completely discredit them either -but if they’re good, they should have good body of work to back it up. I want to know what that body of work is.

Until I see that, they’re opinion is about as valid as Hawaii You to me

Here’s a breakdown O’Sullivan does on Jones against Georgia.. he covers the good and the bad -he mentions a couple under thrown passes but points out that Jones also has some nice driving throws too do to the tight defense Georgia plays.

https://youtu.be/OgL0w0O5is8

He doesn’t seem to predict how these guys will do at the next level, but I dig his analysis. He has a whole series of these videos on different prospects if anyone is interested (I assume most here are aware of these but for those that arent)

Brugler has been offered jobs but he's making too much money doing what he's doing according to his former partner when he was in Dallas. We'll see some of these guys take jobs if they're offered Director of College Scouting or better but they aren't going to give up the gigs they have to be scouts. Jeremiah will probably be the next guy to get a GM job.

You're questioning the salary of a scouting expert for an E-Mag? Clearly he's so good that NFL teams fear a bidding war. It's much cheaper just to subscribe & read his thoughts on-line.
