Cowley, the Spanish language station, and ESPN love LeBron.

Forcing him to play in the All-Star game is a terrible insult. He only got 71 days of vacation from last season.

Probably needs a mental break from being hunted every time he steps out his door.

He really is an all time idiot. Bernstein would have torn him apart for this when being edgy was his brand instead of performative social justice.

I thought “we” wanted to stick to sports....why are “we” so worried about what he says and does off the court. How about we talk about his play when healthy of course?

LeBron presents himself as transcending sports. He's an informed intellectual with serious opinions which include doxxing people to his nearly limitless social media audience.

Does LeBron himself actually do that, or is that something that ESPN and people like Bernstein kind of take off and run with?

You can't say Lebron James didn't warn us. Three years ago, the then-22-year-old James said he had two goals in his professional life: to be a "global icon like Muhammad Ali" and to become "the richest athlete in the world."

Lebron made sure to say Darryl Morey wasn't educated on the subject when he spoke out about China.

He can sit down and take his talking to on this one.

His explanation tweets included "My anger still is here for what happened to that little girl". You mean that little girl that was attempting to murder someone after she had already tried to murder a different girl?

Sad part is the gutless ball washing media wont ask him that.

The original Tweet isn't about one person...

And calling it irresponsible is racist.

Performative is exactly the right word for Lebron as well. He’s always reminded me of the picture Mark Kram painted of Ali in Ghosts of Manila (and elsewhere). That he’s just a tool in over his head and doesn’t really understand what he’s doing or why he’s doing it.

Only unlike Ali, there’s no sacrifice to his activism. Every opinion is lauded in the right circles. He’s suffered no professional injury and he’s celebrated for opinions that are roundly mocked when they come from people like Dicaro.

When he does clearly get out over his skis (e.g., China, comments on Jews, threatening the Columbus cop), there’s no real consequence because he’s a sacred cow for the media covering him. He issues a half-hearted walk back and on we go pretending he’s not a paste eating idiot.

Exactly.

I think it's cool he opened up the elementary school in Akron for at-risk kids. Good stuff. I also think what he tweeted yesterday is stupid. And that video of him being asked about the Malcolm X autobiography....holy shit that's hilarious. You think if you're going to parade around in front of cameras with a new book every few weeks, you would actually read 5-10 pages of a chapter and be prepared for some kind of bullshit answer to a reporter's question.

All of this doesn't take away anything from me enjoying watching he and Anthony Davis play basketball together.

Read his response to the (very, very stupid) shut up & dribble comments. He’s very clear on how he sees himself and transcending sports is an understatement.

I would've defended myself and tore into Laura Ingram too. Also, LeBron may think he transcends sports but he's wrong.

Even that though is a public school he basically bought the naming rights and a place to create a museum to himself in. $2 million up front and up to $2 million more a year going forward. The local school district is covering at least 80 percent of the costs.

Is Brett Favre doxxing people ? Edit : Let me rephrase. Is Brett Favre exposing ( see what I did there ? ) someone who just saved someones life to 50 million followers telling people what he did was wrong and he should be held " accountable" , whatever that may mean to people ?? Also, more than a little ironic that the very author of " we"re being hunted everyday" has no problem calling for someone else to be hunted.

He’s gotten plenty of criticism. And outside of that, there’s an obvious difference between his comments (tldr: Chauvin was wrong/actions uncalled for/Favre didn’t think it an intentional killing)...

...and James sending a tweet to his 50m followers threatening a police officer for actions that may have saved a life.

Even then, it was a generous act that’s in the spirit of what he says he wants to do & who he wants to be.

It seems to exist now as cover to gloss over how irresponsibly stupid he can be at times.

Because Brett Favre is considered a global icon who is praised in the media for being intelligent and well read. Also, Favre hasn't said anything as inflammatory as LeBron.

I'm pretty skeptical of all charities that are named and run by celebrities so I always wondered what the actual financials were and wasn't surprised by it. Most exist as a way for friends and family to get a steady paycheck, but LeBron seemingly doesn't need that, and as a way to increase the brand of the celebrity.

Still though, most people think LeBron built a school for kids, when in reality he contributed 20% or less of the costs of a public school. It's still a good thing. The kids are better off. However, it does seem to be an advertisement for "LeBron is a great guy".

Brett Favre is retired, and has done plenty of stupid things and taken heat for it.

LeBron is still on social media daily saying stupid things. And on TV doing stupid things on the court sometimes....at least during the games he isn't sitting out for load management.

I did not know that. He still did it. He didn't have to do it. Maybe one of the motives is to create a museum-like environment. Maybe another is to advertise "LeBron is a great guy." But another motive is certainly to help kids and their families with housing. Definitely puts things into perspective more though. I appreciate it.

Most commentators have been talking about the accountability for bad police officers all through the last few years and the overwhelming majority of the time it's been clear that they were referring to in the courts. It seems to me that if people think he was talking about violence, it's only because they only see it one way. It's exactly what they bitch about when it comes from July or Sarah Spain types.

And this talk of doxxing is a laughable attempt to push a particular cynical agenda.

And like LeBron (who quickly deleted the tweet) I thought it was wrong from jump street. But unlike others who can't accept reality, he at least apologized for the remarks.
