The call in the playoffs in 2005, stomping on Morneau's foot in Minneapolis, steamrolling a catcher that's not blocking the plate without the ball and then going all WWE with his antics at the plate (resulting in further WWE antics from another bonehead), grabbing the SS's (name eludes me) belt while breaking up a DP against the Red Sox, now this. All have occurred in the last 3 years. I'm not even going back to his short-lived Giants days when he refused to meet w. pitchers and coaches to go over game plans, or anything he did in Minnesota.

What? I said that I don't see a correlation between the two. You said there were conversations about it last week as if that was supposed to explain something to me. Since I wasn't part of those discussions, then should be no surprise that I a) don't give a shit about that discussion when it happened last week & b) require some background on said discussions if you'd like to refer to them as a basis for your argument. If you're unable to do so, that's fine but don't pretend that you actually made a point.

So you give 1. stepping on a guys foot & 2. grabbing a guy's belt.... pretty lame, plus the other stuff is garbage. And then you won't go into AJ's Giants past...for that I say thank you because I don't wanna hear about the time AJ slid hard into 3rd that one time or the time he tried to check his swing and even though he went around it was called a ball. Damning stuff really, no seriously it is

Mike, here is my original statement - try again and read slow. If, in your so-called mind, Soriano holding his swing too long is disrespectful, but the list of AJ's behavior isn't, I'm not here to persuade you. I also wasn't referring to anything you said with the above quote - to be honest, I don't know that anything you've ever posted has been remarkable enough for me to remember, let alone respond to a week or two later.

Why do I have to read it slowly? Will it all of the sudden become sensible? Nope, I just tried it a couple of times.
Not sure what remembering any of my posts has to do with anything...I don't remember any posts from anybody, including my own. But if being a complete dickhead was what you were going for then you've succeeded in your quest...congrats.

There were frequent discussions last week that Soriano deserves to be beaned, drilled, injured, etc. because he is so disrespectful to the game and to his opponents. There is no way what Soriano does (holding his bat for 1/2 second after a swing) is in any way, nearly as disrespectful to the game or other players as what AJ does on a regular basis. Sorry bud, apples/apples.

I don't care if there were frequent discussions last week. I wasn't part of that discussion. I'm asking you, now...what is it exactly that AJ does on a regular basis that is disrespectful to the game? He got a call in the game yesterday...and he got a call in his favor in 2005. That's a regular basis? And what's disrespectful...he's not the umpire making the call.

AJ went out of the baseline to run into Barrett?
AJ incited Barrett??
I guess it was Dave Roberts' fault to cross the plate the way he did against the Cubs.
Barrett overreacted in both cases.
I don't know if AJ intentionally meant to step on Morneau's foot, but there's no excuse for the play against the BoSox.

Thanks, bud.

Tell you what - I will gladly avoid the Sox forum if you can somehow ensure that the Sox meatballs stay out of the Cubs forum. Can you swing that for me?

Stay where you're at Spanky, just don't let your Cubbie love cloud the issue.

Barrett was a bonehead in both cases, no question. But AJ was too. To me, if the "old school" baseball fans/players/managers think that Soriano is disrespectful for his home run pose vs. the Braves, then isn't AJ disrespectful when he slams the plate, yells, screams, etc. after initiating a collision with a player who isn't looking or bracing for it?

Spanky, Barrett was blocking the plate. I have the Sunday editions from both the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times. AJ tumbles over Barrett, then barely reaches out to slam the plate. If Barrett wasn't in the baseline, I believe AJ would've had to reach a lot more to touch the plate.
The play against Boston was a punk move. I won't argue that.
Soriano is more of a showboat.
I compare AJ more to A-Rod. Both will do anything they can -- including stretching the boundaries of gamesmanship -- to win a game.

OK - is that respectful to other players and the game of baseball? Does it deserve repeated retaliation in the minds of the "old school" baseball people/fans who strive to enforce the "unwritten rules" of the game?

Nothing wrong with what AJ did to Barret. Clean play, clean hit, and thats a risk you take being a catcher. Fuck if I care whether Barret was "ready" or not. He's a catcher, and there was a play at the plate. There's always a chance you could get run over.

Bitter grapes, spanky.

I wasn't addressing whether or not AJ's tactics help his team win the game or not (clearly they do in most cases) - I was addressing the perceived "disrespectful" nature of Soriano's actions vs. the perception of AJ's actions.

While on the "helping his team win" topic - I believe the Cubs won the game in Atlanta, i gotta believe it helps the team win when your left fielder leads the league in assists, etc.

I think that maybe there is another factor here - not to open another can of worms - but the type of actions that Soriano is criticized for are also displayed by other players (or have been in the past), and they are criticized also.

Here is a short list of those players: Soriano, Manny Ramirez, Aramis Ramirez, Sammy Sosa, Andruw Jones, David Ortiz, etc.

Hmmmm, is it disrespect to the game, or cultural "flare"?

And, being a catcher, AJ handled it real well when he got ran over this weekend (and he already had the ball and was ready for the hit) - you know, flipping the ball toward the player, running his mouth, etc....

Stay unbiased, Frank - like usual.

Yep. Its racsim. Clearly its all the Latin players that don't hustle, like BJ Upton

Unbiased just like you spanky. If AJ were on the Cubs, you'd be the first in line to get your #12 jersey.

I dont know why you are lashing out at me? I didnt see anything wrong with AJ did yesterday, I just think the subject and comments are becoming silly. By the way, I looked at the FAQS and no where did it say that because I am a cub fan, that I cant come here or vice versa, so.....
