Bad take imo. A guy like Watson is never available. For a team like the Bears you pay literally whatever the fuck it takes and figure it out later. Or you could just go the next few decades hoping to get a QB as good as Watson eventually.
Wasn't that roughly the same logic on the Mack trade, which you were pretty critical of even from the start?

I suppose it could be, but are you trying to say a DE is as valuable as a QB?

A top QB is more valuable than a top 5 DE but either greatly improves your team.

But you shouldn't be giving up a ton of draft capital for the DE until you have the QB. I think the last couple seasons in Chicago has shown that.

It's hard to get either of them.

But yes, having both is better.

Houston was 4-12 with him playing at an MVP level this year.

Now add him to another team who’s needle is clearly pointing down, won’t be able to build around him draft wise for a few years -nor FA wise due to his sizable contract as well as other large contracts already on the books.

And then consider.. when those few years go by and everything starts to straighten out.. his contract will be about due again and you’ll have to -most likely- convince him to sign after the last couple seasons have been mediocre, or complete crap.

I like Watson, but the Bears best chance to get him and succeed with him long term was in 2017. Their best case scenario if they got him now would be to win it all in 2021, because it goes right off a cliff after that.. and I’m not convinced it’s not all about to go right off a cliff this upcoming season.

So, circumstances and costs looking as they do, I’m not sure I see long term/sustained success in acquiring him now in the way they’d have to go about doing it. And I don’t think these concerns are far fetched when you consider.. Houston had him, and was 4-12

I'm still amused that our new defensive coordinator needs a coach. If you're a QB, why would you want to come to this organization?

Apparently other teams are using the Bears again as leverage to gin up trade offers, seems George is OK with allowing Pace/Nagy to mortgage the future in order to save their jobs.

George also didn't seem to understand that not revealing Pace's contract status has created an environment where nobody with options wants to sign up to join an organization due to the coach/GM lame duck status.

Seems it's time for Virginia to move George back into his ticket manager role, but George must be the best option within the family to run the show, this team is going absolutely nowhere until they bring in a football czar type to totally overhaul this organization from top to bottom, However, that will not happen because they seemingly have filled the ranks with yes men/women who are never going to point out that the emperor has no clothes.

George is 65.

There should already be an heir apparent. Not so with this group.

Hub is already backtracking and saying Foles may be the Bears best option. He was very critical of him in favor of Mitch just a few weeks ago. It's amazing how Hub always rallies around the current starting QB.

What an Caller Bob.

He also included Jameis on the list of QBs you can trust (as opposed to Watson).

Why would the Raiders trade Carr unless they found a better QB?

Seems like a Pace move. He liked him in the draft that netted us Kevin White.

What an attractive lady.

And then the Texans long time president quits immediately. Hub doesn't know jackshit. As usual.

Hopefully he can tell Nagy how he shut down his offense even doing a bad enough job to get fire after making the NFC title game.

It really sucks that I can't even roast the Bears for that move since GB hired a definitively worse guy to be their DC

Matt Miller gives JBills his wish

Quote:
20. Chicago Bears —
Team Needs: Tier 1 QB, OT, WR | Tier 2 IOL, EDGE, IDL | Tier 3 CB, TE, LB

The Pick: OT ALIJAH VERA-TUCKER, USC
Analysis: Soon after you read this the Bears could have made a trade for Sam Darnold or Carson Wentz. They could also re-sign Mitchell (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky to a short-term, prove it deal. But either way, it doesn’t seem like drafting a quarterback in Round 1 is likely.

Safe is not always a fun word when it comes to NFL draft prospects, but USC offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker is super safe.

A top-tier guard before sliding out to tackle due to injuries in 2020, Vera-Tucker played his best football on the outside of the USC line while showing the ideal combination of agility, balance, awareness and poise to handle the left tackle spot in the NFL.

And here’s why he’s so safe—even if Vera-Tucker struggled at tackle due to length, he projects as a Pro Bowl caliber guard. He’s Day 1 ready at either position and would be an immediate boost to the run game of the Chicago Bears no matter where he is lining up.

With the quarterback position very much up in the air, attacking the offensive line is the move.

52. Chicago Bears
The Pick: WR Terrace Marshall, LSU
Previous Pick: OT

84. Chicago Bears
The Pick: IOL Quinn Meinerz, Wisc.-Whitewater
Previous Picks: OT, WR

148. Chicago Bears
The Pick: LB K.J. Britt, Auburn
Previous Picks: OT, WR, IOL

180. Chicago Bears
The Pick: CB Mark Webb, Georgia
Previous Picks: OT, WR, IOL, EDGE

196. Bears (from Falcons)
The Pick: S Ar'Darius Washington, TCU
Previous Picks: OT, WR, IOL, EDGE, CB

Yeah pretty much every mock I’ve seen outside of Todd McShay’s crackhead hypothetical trade up for Mac Jones has the Bears taking one of the 4 or 5 available first round graded offensive tackles.

There’s always something off putting about full 7 round mock drafts.

What’s your limit?

I think 3 rounds is really pushing it.

2 max.

The Venn diagram of people who do 7 round mock drafts and those who harass high school kids during recruiting season is probably a perfect circle.

It's very possible that both starting OTs are cut this offseason.

That would be a highly satisfying draft. He's thinking what I'm thinking in terms of positions to target. I don't think I would go guard with the possibility that Tucker is an inside player. I'd maybe go with a IOL who play center and guard. Anyway, in a perfect world that third rounder is going to the Eagles for Wentz (and nothing else)
