Nice job Sneaks. Keep it up.

I have abandoned my goal of averaging 10,000 steps per day. It is just too difficult when the majority of my workday is sitting. Then the weekend comes and I go on a 2-hour walk to get back on pace. And the snow and ice has made long walks a little more dangerous. So I've decided to start riding my stationary bike again. At least when I ride, I can be on my iPad and read or do other work. When this snow melts I'll start riding my road bike and going on my walks again.

I cant say enough good things about the Concept 2 rower. Zero impact. You can ease into it. Yet when you go hard, you can feel like puking in less than 2 minutes.

I’ve been doing an awful job and being cooped up inside with the cold and snow has not been helpful. Not gaining but not losing. I’ll try to get back at it this weekend. No excuse. Temps look to be warming by middle of next week so I’ll plan to get out and walk a lot more.

My weight loss goals are uncannily similar to sneakers. Maxed out at 383 in Sept of 2017. Was about 325 in early January when I got the Type 2 diagnosis. I kicked the insulin in 2 weeks. Still taking metformin until they tell me to stop.

This weekend is 5 weeks without booze, wheat, sugar, rice...still using the MyFitnessPal app religiously.

I should drop under 300 over the next week.

My goal is 225.

I know you're a tall guy, but I would've thought that you were around 260 when we met at lunch.

Exactly....Jet's a tall guy, but I wouldn't have guessed you were that high on the scale.

Congrats, Sneakers and Jet....Fantastic.

That's great work.

I've stalled out weight wise for the last year. High in 2013 was 381 but that was in part due to some meds with which my body disagreed, real high was 368 for about five years. That was one big reason I had stopped golfing, my body just couldn't handle it.

I managed to get down to 314 until my heart valve started crapping out and then slowly rose back up to 351 after I had recovered from my pulmonary embolism in 2018. Right now I'm at 328 and have been under 332 since the beginning of 2020. The goal my doctor and I set for me is to slowly and steadily get to 299 by Christmas while still putting on muscle I lost between the surgery and the PE. I retired from work last week and will just be doing 12-14 hours a week of freelancing, so I'm antsy to use that free time more advantageously. Long term goal is 270, when I was 270 in graduate school I could do 75 mile bike rides in northern Wisconsin.

Right now I'm getting started with resistance bands and very light dumbbells, and if it would stop raining in NC I can get back to walking and golfing, and waking in the pool when summer hits (which I really missed last year).

It definitely helps to see others here who maxed out around where I did. I went to Duke Diet and Fitness several times for 2-3 weeks at a time before they stopped their residential program, and on my first visit I met a guy in his 30s who was down to 598 and they threw him a party to celebrate. He had arrived twelve weeks earlier at 665. He had graduated from walking in the pool to doing standing shadow boxing with one of the PT interns in three minute rounds.

I haven't had a beer (and hardly any alcohol at all) since I got Covid on Jan. 21. I'm down about 15 pounds. It's a start.

No booze since 2/1, starting over (again) with running by using a beginner 5k plan on the Map My Run app. Focused just on not eating anything with added sugar and down about ten pounds since 2/1.; Reffing everyday with a mask on helps too (it kinda sucks).

Do you know how it compares to a NuStep seated elliptical? That was my go to in cardiac rehab, but they are like $7k new.

Eta I should have googled first obviously... I see some videos, I will watch them.

Under $1,000.

I got mine a couple years ago for $250...it's 25 years old. Still works perfectly. I wouldn't bother with anything else. The seat is 14" off the floor. There is a model E, it's taller, the seat is 20" off the floor, if you struggle with standing. I think some other brands might be quieter...but I don't hardly notice.

Eating better is definitely a side effect of not drinking. I'm not saying I'm eating salmon and broccoli, but I'm not getting drunk and ordering a burrito either.

Am I correctly understanding that you lost most/all of this weight without doing any cardio ? Wow! I've never been able to do that.

Haha, pretty much yeah. I don't dislike cardio, but I honestly just got too fat to do anything meaningful so figured my time was better spent going hard with the weights. I'm actually looking forward to doing some running the back half of the year. Main thing for me is eat perfectly Mon-Thur, relax a bit but don't be an idiot Friday through Sunday, and don't miss workouts.

What does a typical workout look like for you?

This is pretty much what I've been following since I started back up again - https://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/4-day-power-muscle-burn-workout-split.html. Where I strayed a bit was for bench. There's a "Bench Press +50lbs" app you can download - you just type in your current max and it gives you a simple program to follow - I've gotten great results from it. Only caveat is make sure to do plenty of stretching and warm-up sets at the beginning of each workout, as even the beginning sets it has you do each workout can be pretty damn heavy. Stretching at the end is important, too, which always used to ignore.

How long does it usually take you to make it through a workout?

I did 30 sets today, but it took like 90 minutes.

Saw my doctor last week. I have been ordered to cease exercising for the time being.

Going in for some additional tests tomorrow.

Thanks, gentlemen. As you probably know, I am kind of an "old" parent of fairly young kids. I can't afford to die just yet!

Still banned from doing any exercise by the doctors. Another test coming in the next week or so.

Been walking a lot more outside. I am determined to get some weights and stretching in. Work has been a bit hectic and I have a home improvement project going on so I am getting pulled in a lot of different directions. No reason I can't carve out 30 minutes a day. Almost pulled the trigger on a treadmill but through better of it.

Same ole story here, I really frustrate myself.

Each spring/summer I do a good job of getting out and exercising and lose 20-30 lbs. Then basketball season arrives and I get so busy that I stop exercising and eating too much junk and all the weight comes right back.

So I am starting the process again.

My recumbent exercise bike showed up yesterday. Took it for a spin when I got home from work. Was able to do a half hour and 8 miles at pretty low resistance. Not bad considering I haven't exercised since beginning of November when i hurt my back. Back and legs felt fine, but the area of my butt where the sciatic nerve roots are was bothering me about halfway through. Hoping its just because I am out of shape. I might try some sort of pillow to sit on, we'll see.
