Bears dodge a bullet

Philly gets 3rd, 2nd(maybe turns into 1st)

Actually not a bad deal for Indy, IMO. They might fix him.

Oh thank goodness. They can suck next year more cheaply than that.

Really good deal by Indy, if they suck then you fake an injury for his ass and sit him, if they make the playoffs than the different between 1st and 2nd will be minimal.

It's only a good deal if Wentz is good. The Colts inherit a 4 year, $98 million contract. Giving up picks and paying $25 million a year for the 20th best qb in the league pretty much destroys your chances of being anything but average.

Let me be more clear. I don't think Wentz will be good and worth paying $25 million a year without even getting into the draft picks they gave up.

They can cut Wentz in two years(actually after next season) and save 20+ million against the cap. They are betting they can bring back 2018 Wentz.

That would make the trade a bad one too if he performed so poorly that he was cut early.

It's a moderate risk lottery ticket. Put him behind back with his old coach and a great oline and see if you can get a top 5-10 QB performance. There is risk but if it fails it doesn't set the org back THAT much. I think it's a 70% chance it fails(he's just middling QB that at best gets them to 9-7)..30% chance he gets them to the AFC Championship or further.

The only way that this is a good trade for the Colts is if he is a top 10 quarterback. Highly paid and average at the quarterback position really hurts your team. If your qb is average, they need to be on a rookie deal or a cheap veteran so they cost doesn't limit the rest of your team.

It's all hypothetical, but I would give up that exact deal to trade first round picks this year to get:
Lawrence
Wilson
Fields
Lance

...or to get a pick to also get Mac Jones and keep pick 20.

You get a cheaper player with just as much chance of being good who also isn't damaged goods.

Cousins was a good "shot" at the time. But he's weak in the knees and then the defense declined. But it was worth the shot.

What was the "shot"? Cousins was a pretty well known commodity by then. He was 30 by the time he played his first game for the Vikings.

Correct. This is a bad move for the Colts because Wentz sucks and his contract is a liability. The stipulations Bob quoted don't make this a better deal.

Bob has a fetish for mediocre overrated QBs. This is becoming more clear.

Some probably will. Not me. Kicking the tires on a Wentz type guy doesn't bother me. Taking on that contract and giving up anymore more than like a 5th or a conditional 4th was not a good move for the Bears. They have so many other issues. I would rather the Bears tag Mitch for a year and draft a QB for the future than give up a 2nd and a 3rd for Wentz and $100million.

I'm not going to bother to research if I'm correct, but I believe you once were a huge Wentz fan..you are just Mr. Johnny of the Moment.

I realize RFDC is making more of a humorous comment than a prediction but the fact is if Wentz were to return to MVP caliber form then Pace is to blame if he didn't make a real effort. I am on record (along with many others) as thinking there's no chance that will happen and it would be foolish to waste picks and cap space on him. However, it's his job to evaluate and be correct - not ours. Just like the (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky vs Watson and Mahomes debate.
